Suggestions for rv campgrounds in the keys

First thank you in advance for your assistance.I am planning to take a trip to the
florida keys.Has anyone suggestions for private or state campgrounds worth
staying at.

I have stayed at all of the state parks in the Keys. They all have there appeal and are different. What are you interested in doing or looking for in a CG in the Keys?

Well one thing I am looking for is a quiet place in which we are not of each other.
I have enough of crowded city enviroment and Iam trying to avoid as much as
possible.

In that case I would recommend Long Key state park or Curry Hammock state park. I have pics of both I could share if needed. There are also some sites with pics of every site available if you need that. I will be glad to furnish anything I have to help you make a good decision.

Bahia Honda SP is nice also and gives access to the gulf and ocean. Nice sand beaches too. Not too much to do in the area but relax or fish/dive. About forty miles to Key West in case you do want to go a little bit crazy one day. Travel safely, Hank

The State Parks are definitely the best deal and most roomy sites in the keys. We have stayed in all of them. Downside it is a "real luck of the draw" to get into them. Reservations are full two seconds after the 11 month window opens up, but you might get lucky with short term stays if you are flexable and stay on top of cancellations.

There are a lot of very nice private campgrounds, but they tend to get pretty pricey. You might want to check craigslist.com as private owners often advertise sites there.

We've been going to the Key's every Feb. for 15 years now and all the state parks are our first choice, if you can get in. Sugarloaf KOA isn't bad, but it isn't cheap.

Be sure to ride around Big Pine Key and see all the Key deer.

Those pictures of the Key Deer are very nice. As a child, my dad was in the Navy on submarines and we were stationed at Key West. I remember the Key Deer around the beginning of the keys. There was a rest stop just as the Key Bridges started from the mainland that had concrete picnic tables, and grills. We used to stop there to eat Mom's fried chicken and potato salad on the way back home from the big hospital at Homestead AFB. Those little deer aren't much bigger than a medium size dog. Once I remember 5 or 6 deer right by the edge of the water and a couple of alligators laying there in the water watching them very closely. Mom wouldn't let us go down any closer than the tables, Hmmmm I wonder why? LOL

If you've never been, you'll love the keys. When we're there, I often wonder why anyone would leave once they see the beauty that's there. Then I get home, listen to the weather channel during the hurricane season and remember well the times we'd lose water and electricity when they would shut down power and close the water pipeline along the bridges when the winds would blow.

That was so many years ago that it's hard to imagine that we used to live there permanently, and so very little of Key West and the NAS/submarine base are still there as I remember them. Of course airplanes back then all had propellers. About the only thing that remains the same in Key West is the downtown area, the mangrove swamps and the smell of burned Cuban coffee in the mornings.

If you haven't been there, it's a "go at least once in your lifetime" kind of place for sure.

P.S. We spent a night out in front of Sunshine Key RV Resort, we had nowhere to stay.
