Yeah... the bracing for the "dinette bed" is always less than well-engineered. In my last rig, the side brackets were well fit and tight, but under use, the edge of the table itself separated from the top surface at its glue/brad joint and dumped the sleeper.
Since then, I have always made some ABS "Sleeper Helper" posts. From an ABS pipe a little narrower than your metal posts (so that it slides inside) cut two pieces that are exactly the right length to brace your table when it is in the sleeper position. Increases performance under load tremendously.
And in your case, if your "side rails" are spaced too widely, you should add another side rail to one side on top of the existing one.
