suburban hot water heater tripping fuse

Hello

We were camping recently and noticed that our hot water heater fuse began to trip off. It worked fine day one of trip, but tripped off on day two. We were running our a/c, would that have caused it? thanks

If you have a 30A circuit in your RV, then having both the HW heater and the A/C running at the same time probably caused the breaker to trip. Don't forget that there are also other items your RV that will "eat into" the 30A ----- the converter to name one and any other small appliances that you may have had on at the time.

I do have 30A. That was likely the culprit, as it was the first time that we camped at beach and the air was going almost constantly. Lights, tv, converter....

I'll try it now without a/c and see if that was it. thanks much

Your lights work off 12VDC through your converter so having the lights on won't directly affect any AC draw. I forgot to mention the microwave so if you used it while your A/C and HW heater were on, that would definitely trip the breaker.

You can always use propane for the HW heater in order to "save" some of those valuable AC amps.

Lets backup here, first you mention the water heater fuse. Fuses are for the 12vdc circuit board portion of your water heater.

The you mention that it tripped off. Fuses do not trip, they blow and must be replaced.

Next the thread starts do the route of using to many 120vac devices causing your 30amp breaker to trip.

Was it the main breaker, only the water heater breaker, of actually a fuse? If it was only the water heater breaker, the heating element could be bad. If it was a fuse, then most likely the circuit board. Of course all these assume the wiring is a good.
