Gas Leak

While prepping the 5er prior to our recent trip, we had discovered the road side propane tank was bone dry. Thought that was odd because I was certain we had filled both tanks before our last outing and had not used the roadside tank. The auto switch-over was set for the curbside tank which was still about 1/2 full. Well, scratched my head and chalked it up to CRS and refilled both tanks. Installed the tanks and checked all of the fittings hoses, hard line valves and regulators with soapy water. Didn't find anything leaking.

When we arrived at the DS's house after 3 days, again found the road side tank empty with the regulator set to the curbside tank. Replaced the red, high pressure regulator and filled the tank AGAIN. So far haven't lost anymore gas. The high pressure regulator was the obvious culprit. Don't know why I couldn't detect the leak. If the diaphragm had failed, wouldn't there have been gas leaking from the vent hole?

Anyway, seems to be fixed, but not confident about finding leaks. Never smelled gas, but, my sense of smell was compromised years ago during surgery. Just a heads up

I had to replace mine. Leaked all around the edge of the high pressure regulator at the crimp. Soapy water bubbled like crazy when I poured it on top of the regulator

Pull Toy,
I'm with you, no surprises. I open one bottle at a time myself. My main reg. was bad from the start, couldn't get more than 6" WC in the manifold. Needless to say when the outside temp dropped below 30* the furnace wouldn't stay lit. Couldn't get enough propane. After replacing it, no more issues. Happy Campin....
