Crappy so called wood

Picked up our 1 year old camper from the dealer yesterday after having a bunch of warranty work done(including a warped counter top and peeling cabinet laminate). As i was sweeping i noticed 2 more pieces if cheap wood. The "wood" is spongy and the laminate is cracked/peeling. These are the bottom corner pieces of of our pantry and refrigerator cabinets. I am waiting to hear back from dealer if we have a chance of them being repaired under warranty. 1 year warranty time expired while camper was at dealer.

Have you ever come across or noticed any signs of leaks or dampness in and around the pantry and fridge area? "Spongy wood", "warped counter tops" and "peeling laminate" are signs of possible water intrusion in one or more of those areas. Leaking water from rear of fridge? Detached or cracked fridge drain hose? Kitchen sink connection leaks?

We have the same trim in our Outback - it is just cheap veneer (vinyl, I think) over cheap wood or foam plastic. You have to be careful when you sweep or run a vacuum. I just get down there periodically with some contact cement, and glue the flaps back in place before they break all the way off ....

Warranty request has been submitted by dealer just waiting to hear back.

I have never noticed any significant water intrusion. The counter top was in the outside kitchen and the peeling laminate was on an upper cabinet on the other side of the camper.

Dealer says that warranty claim to replace the "trim tape" has been aproved. I then asked how that will solve the issue of the soft wood underneath it... waiting on answer.

Agree.. the wood is the concern. What's the response? Water intrusion is the problem.

Still have not heard back. The only water intrusion in this area i can think of was possibly that i once noticed water on floor after closing slides while it was raining.

That's certainly all it would take. The water will very quickly wick up through that wood and it will then remain spongy. I have the same issue but way out of warranty. The water came in through the slide, wicked up the side of the slide trim and I now have sponge going up around 6". Still can't figure out what to do with it. Hope your warranty will get if fixed right.

Jusy wanted to update this to say that keystone is covering it and repairing it correctly by replacing the wood not just taping over it. They order the trim this spring but i told them i was not bringing the trailer in until the end of the season. I took it in last weekend and when they unboxed the trim it was damaged. Now waiting a few more weeks for new trim to come in.
