Frozen camper ?

I'm camping in Ks hunting and have heat on 70 all day to keep pipes from freezing. Well sink in bathroom is working on cold but no hot water anywhere. Anyone got any tips how to thaw this out or keep from freezing again? Its super cold like 15deg and wind chill close to 0

Think of a way to skirt the trailer so air does not blow under it. We use plastic and go around the trailer using rope etc to hold it against the sides and rocks to hold it down to the ground. Like you we keep all areas near pipe open for warm air inside the trailer. Sometimes the toilet or other water lines still freeze.

As crazy as it sounds, hot water freezes faster than cold. Depending on where your hot line is frozen, it may be difficult to thaw out. I'd start by putting tarps or something around trailer to keep wind out from under it, opening cabinets where water lines are, and removing any access panels that have water lines behind 'em.

Yup, pretty crazy. My ex-wife told me this once after I found ice cube trays full of hot water in the freezer. Good lord.

I'm thinking someone skipped science class in high school. You have to remove heat energy from water in order to get it to freeze. One calorie is approximately the amount of energy it takes to change the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree C. The hotter the water the more energy it takes to freeze it. If the amount of energy used to cool the water remains constant, hot water will take more time (and energy) to freeze.

The Mpemba paradox notwithstanding, I'm not going to heat water for the ice trays. Besides, if you look at the graph, the initial time to freeze hot water is extended for the cool down process.

Did Mpemba attempt to freeze two cartons of ice cream (one hot and one cold) at the same time? The warmth from the hot carton would most likely start the compressor cycle (depending on where the freezer was in that cooling cycle), which would cool the contents of the freezer faster. This falls under the category of too much college and not enough high school, methinks. Or perhaps in Mpemba's case, not enough high school.

The larger the temperature delta, the faster the change, but with farther to go the speed increase won't make up for the distance required to travel. At least that is my non-scientific, high school mentality explanation. Keep in mind that I didn't go to MIT, nor was I an architect of Obamacare. I'm just one of the people.
