Electric Water Heater Problems

My water heater is smoking when I switch it on to electric. It smoked for around 20 minutes today I ran the hot water and was getting hot water during this time it finally tripped the breaker for the water heater and the whole unit. Has anyone else had this same problem? I have attached the picture.

Thanks

It was smoking and you left it on for twenty minutes?????? I would say that a simple loose wire is now a costly repair. JM2¢, Hank

Hitch it up and head on down to to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. (If your 2013 fiver is still covered) May want to NOT tell them about the time it was smoking and the photos along with this thread. Next time, you may need the FD and/or an insurance agent.

Well this is what happen after I took it to my dealer for the same problem. They told me that it was normal if you hadn't used it in a while which I thought was BS. I have never had a TT that has smoked like this before and I even showed them the pictures from the first time. As you can see from the pictures it was a more serious issue than they seem to think it was I already let them know how I felt about this as well will see what there going to do now as this will be the second time it is in for the smoking water heater.

JRTJH <<== Shaking head almost in disbelief 20 minutes? You're lucky you still own an RV rather than a pile of charcoal !!!!! I'd go to the dealer with it before you even think about turning the circuit breaker back on.

Talk about having all the stars lined up in your favor, You are one lucky person!!!!!

Smoke from anything in an RV is bad with the possible exception of that pulled pork in the BBQ smoker.

The next time it smokes, turn it off right away. You've been extraordinarily lucky twice now. Let it go 20 minutes again and you might not have a trailer to be repaired. I don't even want to think about the risk to yourself and your family.

Oh yeah, the dealer's employee who told you that smoke is OK gave you terribly wrong and dangerous information. I'd be chatting with the manager there about that in a very forceful manner.

UTRod, Howdy;

It may have been 'burning the calicum off the heater probe...

If not then you may be Guilty of proforming 'Stupid Human Trick
#42' ...... I smell and can see smoke ..... think I'll wait to see the
flames before I call the Fire Department .......

Dude call the manufacturer at once and have them tell you where to take it to get it fixed right away before you burn the thing to the ground and get someone hurt.

I think the heat probe is inside the water tank. It would not produce external smoke.

You are indeed one lucky camper, at least so far! When the majic smoke escapes from electrical wires that is usually a good indication that something is amiss. To have it escape twice without a major incident is down right spooky. Please have this checked by someone who is not trying to blow warm smoke up your keister that it is normal behaviour - it isn't!

Cheers!

Mike
