how do I fix my broken black tank valve handle

I am new to all this and am living full time in my 2012 tow. I went out to empty my black tank and when I was done I was pushing the pull handle back in when it snapped off, broken. No threads and I am sealed under my RV so I'm not sure how to fix it. I am a 69 yr old single female, can someone please help me??

Where did it break? What Did the piece you had left in your hand look like?

Lots of good folks on here willing to help...but we need more info. If you can post a picture of the rod, perhaps someone will be able to see if it has just come loose or actually is broken.
From your description, the rod bent/broke when you were pushing the valve closed. Hopefully the valve itself isn't damaged, but, something caused it to bind. If you are handy with tools, the valve is not difficult to replace - just messy.

Cindy, was it the rod part that snapped in half or the "T" handle part? A picture may be worth a thousand words in this situation.
