Television signal loss

I have a 2014 Passport 2890RL and when I turn more than two overhead lights on the TV signal gets pixelated and loses signal. We can live with this problem but maybe someone else has experience this problem and has a solution?

Re: Television signal loss

I found on my Outback that the USB ports are tied into the same power as the antenna booster. When using the USB ports the signal is no longer boosted. Sounds like the power for your lights are doing the same thing? If that's not it, maybe there is interference along the coax when the lights are on.

Something to check: Is the antenna booster on when you are seeing this issue? If not, can you turn on the booster and the issue go away?

Re: Television signal loss

The booster is on, I couldn't get the channels without it. Like I said, it is not a big problem but it kind of piqued my curiosity and thought maybe some forum members were experiencing same phenomenon?

We have a 2890rl and have had the same problem, I don't know what the fix is though.

Re: Television signal loss

If the light fixtures you say are causing the issue are LED's, then you may have a problem with interference from the voltage regulator circuits in the light fixtures. Occasionally they produce an RF radiation that is picked up by the co-ax cable and causes distortion of the TV signal. It's not the booster that's causing the issue (if it's the LED's) rather it's often a loose co-ax connection, a poorly crimped co-ax terminal or just "the cheap cables" causing the problem.

If replacing the co-ax cable doesn't fix the problem, possibly you could do some troubleshooting with the light fixtures to isolate which one is causing the problem and switch it with one from a different location in the trailer so the "bad fixture" isn't in a location where it would be turned on while watching TV.

Re: Television signal loss

The lights get hot so I don't believe they are led's. I tried turning on different overhead lights and it is always the same, over two and the signal goes out. It is perplexing to say the least.

Re: Television signal loss

When you turn on lights, does the booster light stay on?

Re: Television signal loss

Sounds like you have a faulty 12 volt connection. We had the problem with the bedroom 12 volt TV, turn on the vanity light, and the TV would turn off. Found a poorly made crimp behind the light switch which had a loose connection. Replaced the crimps, no more problem. At 12 volts, it doesn't take a very loose connection to cause a loss of power in a circuit.

Re: Television signal loss

We have had the same problem occasionally. It is when the overhead bathroom or bedroom lights are switched on, the PBS stations black out. This has happened in Charleston, SC and Davenport, IA. These are digital stations and you either get a good picture or none at all so I am guessing we are on the edge of their coverage area and the lights may have a slight short that is interfering with the booster. So far it is not serious enough to cause me to tear into the light fixtures.
