To bad that trailer may have had collector value before the chev was attached. From just seeing outside, I am glad I did not see what the inside was like.

I liked it better before I saw the inside. Maybe it's just the color scheme.

Spartan Trailers were made in the 40's and were the "state of the art" trailers back then. Here's a link to some pictures of restored Spartans. They were pretty elaborate for their time, much "fancier" than the functional Airstreams of the day...

It's not unusual for antique rebuilt travel trailers to bring well over 100 times their original price at auction. Currently there are two restored trailers for sale on EBay, a 1938 Kozy and a 1948 Curtis, both with "buy it now" prices of $35K.

There are also a number of unrestored trailers with prices in the $5000 range that aren't in much better condition than the one in this thread.

There is a trailer restoration company in East Jordan, Michigan that does "frame up" restorations on 1950-1970 travel trailers, most in the 15' to 20' lengths. The "finished prices" for their trailers is $15,000 to $40,000 depending on the brand and the final condition. They seldom have a trailer sit on the "for sale lot" for more than a week or two. Most are sold long before they even start the interior painting/varnishing.

As far as I know, they haven't done any Keystone restorations.... Might be because they aren't worth restoring or it could be that they just last so long, they don't need to be restored ????? Yeah, right LOL

Not everyone can afford to spend thousands on an rv, some people make the best of what they have.

Nice rig but does it have G rated tires? Bet they used 303 to preserve it!

In about 2002, someone dumped a Spartan trailer off on the side of a highway. I was asked to check it for it's ID or VIN. It was around 20ft and was found to be a 1947 model. Not much left but, the outer shell, rotten tires and frame with windows. Several months later the tow company that recovered it told me thanks, they actually made money at auction with several bidders wanting to restore it. Unlike most abandon cars they get called to recover go to be crushed. I wondered, where and what type of WW2 airplane the metal was made for, thinking it was maybe left over metal because of the year build.

A number of the WW2 aircraft companies "diversified" after the war and started making "civilian" products. Grumman is still making boats and canoes, Curtis, Aero-Flite, Spartan, Douglas to name a few. Many other RV manufacturers started (or had a major part of their business) making aircraft parts and then branched out into the "housing industry" (travel trailers) after the war, partly to help provide housing for the returning GI's.

Howdy All;

Ever wonder about the origins of stuff ...
Like where the ZEBCO fishin' reel came from
or what the name truly stands for?

An interesting read! I've never really paid much attention to Zebco fishing reels since I have always thought of them as "kid's" reels. When on display, they always seemed to be attached to a small, "Mickey Mouse" cheap rod or the Zebco reel and rod was shrink wrapped along with some other lures and goodies.

I didn't realize that it had such a storied past and has somehow survived this long. Are these reels any good or do they perform as advertised or are they intended for kids?

Anybody who fishes for catfish in the deep south has a Zebco 33 on a "Uglystick"... My DW won't go fishing unless her Zebco is in the boat. No, I don't bait her hook, but she prefers that I put "those floppy things" in the livewell for her. I clean them, she cooks them, so it's a "win-win" after she cleans and stores her Zebco.

I'm a long, long way from the "deep south" and catfish so you won't find too many Zebco reels out there - at least amongst the adult fishermen. Catfish are not plentiful here on the west coast of BC but the Uglystick is.
