Foam weather strip inside window frames

Our 2014 Alpine 3010RE has a piece of foam weather stripping/gasket on the interior of each of the large slide out windows where dining table and recliners reside. The first one started separating and fell out on our second trip and the other just fell out on our third trip. Are these foam strips necessary? They do not appear to prevent hot/cold air from entering the unit. Anyone else experienced this issue?
