Slide roof bubbling

Unfortunately after seeing a thread regarding the slide gear mechanism leaking and causing the roof membrane to bubble up I decided to check mine.. Well sure enough after inspecting it this weekend I have the same issue! I cannot beleive they would not design some sort of motor/gear enclosure that would prevent this! Now I’m torn between having to take it back to the dealer (Tulsa,, OK) which is a little over 250 miles away or trying to fix the issue myself.

Can anyone tell me what roof material my 2018 Cougar Half Ton 25RES is made from? TPO or EDPM? I’ve seen the threads about pulling the inside roof vent panel to check but I really am not wanting to have to do that so I’m hoping someone already knows which material they used for this line.

Also, any suggestions on a good fix for the roof? Patch over the area and seal the patch? I plan on making some sort of aluminum tray and attaching to the motor/gear assy for a drip pan.

Barry

We have a 2018 Cougar fifth wheel, new this spring. We have the same issue with the kitchen slide roof. The dealer is replacing the gear assembly and the roof membrane. If the trailer has warranty, i would suggest contacting the dealer and find out if there is anything they can do for you. I have read about some of the repairs that other dealers have done. Patches and drip trays.
Good luck.

There is no reason to "not want to " pull a vent cover/skylight cover to see what roof you have....about 5 minutes and you're done, and you know. If the trailer is 500 miles away...that is a different issue. I wouldn't go by guessing because "someone" else had this or that; you need to know what YOU have. JMO

Mine is the same way. I bought some repair tape in case the bubbles tear. I am using camper this weekend. I hope when I open and close slides bubbles don’t tear. Does anybody know if bubbles will leak if they are not torn or busted? Chance of rain this weekend. Don’t want leaks. I wouldn’t think it would leak as long as bubbles aren’t torn. I have another trip planned in early November, then take it to Camping World on Black Friday to drop it off to be fixed. I can only imagine how long they will have it.
