Extended Warrenty Plans
We recently purchased our first new trailer, a 2018 Outback 330RL and are looking at an extended warranty plan from Good Sam. WE have a quote for a 72 month plan for $30 a month with a $100 deductible. We are very new to RVing so we're not sure if we really need the pan or not so we are looking for a little advice or opinions. If the trailer is covered for the first year should we wait till after that to purchase a plan or do it now?

Keep in mind the first year is a full warranty be keystone and then most of the appliances have a 2-3 year warranty from then manufacturer, so most major cost items like the fridge and A/C are already covered for a few years.
I personally don't think they are worth the money, you are better off just putting your $30/month in a separate account for repairs. Then you have total control over the money and who does the repair.
If you do decide you feel better having a warranty do your research and look at what is and is not covered, many have a lot of exclusions that don't cover most of the stuff that you would likely have an issue with. Also shop around, like the car extend warranty these are huge money makers for the RV dealers, you might find a dealer who sells these warranties at a fraction of the cost online.
Good luck with your decision, in the end it is your money and your comfort level that working on the RV that you have to consider.

We went with Easy Care when we purchased. In five years, they paid about 1/2 of our premium out in repairs, so would have been better off putting that money in savings and being self insured.

Good bad or indifferent, we purchased a 5 yr extended warranty on our Raptor, some things covered some not but even though we both have some RV experience we decided to go with it, mostly due to not really having a place to work on it. Having a great dealer helps too! So far anyway...Lol!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but let's say that you financed your trailer over 10 or 15 years. Is the $30 a month for the life of the loan? I ask because the extended warranty runs out after 72 months, so you continue to pay for the remainder of the loan's life for a warranty that expired years ago.
I recently picked up my new Cougar 32RLI from Camping World, and there was a full court press to sell me an extended warranty. I became progressively more annoyed that they wouldn't take "no" for an answer, and I had 3 successful levels of management come in, one after the other, to sell it. Very annoying! Needless to say, I did not purchase the extended warranty.
I have owned popups, travel trailers, a Class C, and a motorhome for over 40 years and have never found the need to have an extended warranty. Every once in awhile I hear about someone who benefited from having one, but across all of the various camping forums I follow, the most often cited comment is that "you're better off putting that money in the bank and using it when a repair is needed".

Just for us, we could have paid the warranty amount up front and separate from our loan but again in our case we chose to include it with our loan. Don't usually believe in extended warranties but for the size of the purchase, we decided to do it.

I hadn't thought about financing the extended warranty in those terms, but you're right, paying $30 a month for 15 years to get 6 years of coverage makes the interest on that money get very expensive.

Thats probably true only if you pay on the loan through the end date, not so much if you end up trading in a few yrs.

This would be separate from the loan, it is only for the length of the plan. I did the math when being pressured by CW when I purchased the trailer and a 5 yr plan would have cost me $11000 over the length of the loan. I have never purchased an extended warranty when buying a vehicle, but I know how to work on them. Just not sure how much may brake on the trailer.

.
They sure do push the add-on stuff. I love sitting across the desk from them saying no for as many times as needed for them to quit. I am retired, its a game, same as spammers, telemarketers and the ones telling me I need to pay my taxes with iTunes cards.
Or I owe the government money and they are sending the police to arrest me. Just ask them what colour car they are coming in and say you will meet them out at the curb.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's:
$30/mo * 12 months * 15 years = $5400 (financed)
I realize there is an interest amount here, but you're still adding a big chunk of change to that loan.
How much does the warranty cost up front if you paid cash?

Well ours is only $25 a month, cost up front was a little over $2200 but again we will be trading in 4-6 yrs. So even at 72mo that's still less than the upfront price. My money so I'll do as I see fit with it...not the first time I wasted some of it and it probably won't be the last! LOL!! Both GF and I were good with it so that's the way we went.
