Cougar High Country
About a year ago, Jeff Runels, product manager for Cougar, told me via an e-mail, that Cougar would make a High Country version of the 318SAB Cougar. He later said Montana would get that floorplan first in the Montana High Country line. That has happened.
I just sent Jeff Runels another E-mail asking when Cougar High Country will get the lightweight 318SAB floorplan. I await his reply. The High Country versions are about 2000 pounds lighter using lighter weight materials.
HAS ANYONE OUT THERE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT MORE OFFERINGS IN THE COUGAR HIGH COUNTRY line of 5th wheels? In particular, the 318SAB floorplan interests me the most. To get that with a 2000 pound savings would be ideal.
Any comments would be appreciated.

ANSWER from Jeff Runels
Jeff Runels answered my question.
Cougar High Country WILL NOT get a version of the 318SAB floorplan.

It's always good to get a reply ... whether it's what you wanted to hear or not. Keep looking ... something will come along that you like just as much. JM2¢ , Hank

The Montana Mountaineer version starts at over 10.5k. That's the 326RLT model. Your new truck can handle the 318.

I thought if I could get a 318 floorplan in a lighter unit, it would save fuel and even be easier to pull. Well, since a High Country version will not be made in the Cougar line, I will just get a 318.
Thanks for your input.

Phil,
I real do not think the weight will save you that much in fuel with a diesel. What will cause you to burn more fuel is the size of the front of the 5er. The frontal area is a large wind break that you are trying to move down the highway at speed.
I can tell a difference in fuel mileage when I pull my 318SAB at 55 mph VS 65 MPH. I try not to go over 65 MPH since this is what the speed rating is listed for this size tire.

I have to agree .... I went from a 5er with a flat front to my present Cougar that weighs at least 2500 lbs. more and increased 2mpg. .. Wind resistance seems to have a bigger effect than weight .... In my case, anyway.
Phil, I'm sure that you are giving up something when they make a trailer that much lighter. I think I would stay with the 318. JM2¢ , Hank

Thanks everyone
I appreciate the input regarding front cap vs. weight. And, I've got to believe something has to be given up to save that 2000 pounds. Insulation? Panel strength / thickness??
I will definitely get the 318SAB. I love the floorplan. It won't be long now before I find the 318 I will buy. I am lining up financing. Then I will go for it!!
Thanks again!
Phil
