Exclamation Brakes adjuster on 2015 Rapter 412ts

I just took my 2015 Rapter in for it's first service and heard some bad news. They told me that one of the brake adjusters came apart in the in the drum and cause $1,800 worth of damage. They sent out a guy from the factory and said it was my problem.
I have less than 500 miles on it and never came close to hauling more than listed on the RV. I just called Keystone to see what, or if there is anything they will do. Has anyone had this issue?

Brakes adjuster on 2015 Rapter 412ts

$1800.00 of damage, I cry foul. The WORST that could happen is the shoes, backing plate, magnet assembly, and drum got destroyed.

Unless the spindle got damaged, and they would have to show me, I don't see that much.

From what factory? Keystone doesn't make axles.

mkrof72, Howdy;

I'm inclined to be with chuckster57 with this. Sounds like they want to sell
you a whole new axle to fix one side. But then what do they charge per hr.
for labor, $450.00 / hr? I'd for sure be wanting to see what they are talking
about and see in my hand the parts.

If your axles are Dexter or AlCo, you have a 2 year warranty from Dexter. The self adjusting brake assemblies are a part of that warranty. It's not Keystone's responsibility but the axle manufacturer. If you've got Lippert axles, contact LCI, if you've got Dexter, contact them.

And FYI, Dexter just announced a "warranty extension" for all their products. I haven't been able to confirm whether the extension applies to previously delivered products or if it applies only to new deliveries. http://l.b5z.net/i/u/6149609/f/Dexte...Difference.pdf In any case, your axles are still in warranty and if there is a failure, it should be covered.

I'd argue this one with the dealer/axle manufacturer. Keystone is essentially out of the picture since your one year warranty has expired.

My opinion, you shouldn't be paying for this repair, but even if you do, a complete axle is less than $400: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/3219428...&ul_noapp=true I have no doubt your dealer would be buying it even cheaper than you could get it on EBay. Something just doesn't add up here.....

I believe that foul is the correct word in this case. Honestly, if this was sitting in your storage lot you could fix it yourself for under $200.00. I would be very, very wary about them telling you it damaged the spindle, hence an axle replacement. This whole thing smells from a mile away.

Unless you've "somehow" damaged the spindle or run over something to bend the axle, the "worst case" would mean replacing the brake assembly/magnet and the hub. You can buy a complete brake assembly/magnet for around $50 and a 8 lug hub, complete with bearings, grease seal, new lug nuts and spindle cap would cost about $75. So the total cost for parts from etrailer.com would be somewhere around $125. It's a simple matter of jacking the axle, pulling off the old parts, bolting on the new ones (5 bolts and two electric wires), greasing the new wheel bearings and installing the hub. Total time, probably less than 2 hours for a "first time novice" and around 30 minutes for someone who does the job on a routine basis and has the tools ready.

The only thing you'd be reusing in this situation is the spindle nut and you'd need a new cotter pin. Otherwise, all new parts for your axle, on the side that is damaged.

NOTE: These parts may not be the correct side or components you'd need, but they are representative of the cost and "kit contents".

One other thing sounds seriously fishy: "They sent out a guy from the factory and said it was my problem." What guy? What factory? When was he here? What's his name and phone number? I believe they are under the impression that they have you by the cahones. I'm calling BS on this one.....
