Know Your Neighbors.....

This happened about 1hr north of me.

This doesn't appear to be the typical vintage RV fire situation.

Sad to see. With the defund the police movement in most blue states so prevalent I can certainly understand the concern. Thank goodness I live in Texas.

Fire worries me more than anything else. I've stayed at racetrack campgrounds that are packed elbow to a**&&&&%. With an abundance of over drinking and campfires it can get a bit scary. One RV catches on fire, they all go.

About an hour south of where we are currently. Early morning fire, fire department arrived about 5:00 am. You need to wonder if there was a system malfunction in the destroyed 5erin the center?

Highly likely, the 5er looks to be a late model Voltage Toy Hauler. Which would potentially hold up to 60 gallons of fuel on board. If i were a guessing man I'd venture to say that had a little to do with the intensity of the fire as seen in the pics.

Could be electric space heaters …saving their propane

After seeing what the electric outlets look like behind the wall in these rv’s …I wouldn’t plug a space heater in…likely melt the outlet

Sounds like pure speculation. I don't have trouble with space heaters. But I don't sleep with them on either. Only idiots do that.

Well then, I guess there are a lot of idiots out there. A bunch of newbies think using space heaters in their brand new campers are a great way to heat the camper and not use much propane when electric is included in the space rental where they are. They are leaving propane heater on very low to keep basements from freezing, and that about it. Space heaters for the rest.

That is why I like my Cheap Heat system! UL listed and all on correctly sized wire and breakers!

So Ram Nation, you use electric space heaters, but don’t trust them. Understand in the area this happened it was down to the low 30’s high 20’s the last several days. A 1,500 watt heater will heat up an outlet with constant use. My father was a Firefighter and saw way too many fires caused by electric space heaters.

We are full time park host, I was not going to use space heaters to heat our unit on a constant basis. That is why I installed RV Comfort Systems “Cheap Heat” electric unit to the gas furnace. Even heat throughout the 5er, and heats the basement.

The fire around the first unit sure looks like burning liquid.

Curious what this comment has anything to do with a rv fire???
I seriously doubt they called the PD for a rv fire!

Wholly cow, out of context again, I did not say I don't trust electric heaters. I use them all the time as a matter of fact. I don't use them when sleeping. Does that make better sense?

If you read the original thread by the OP maybe you will understand what i was trying to convey. And I am sure when a fire burns 4 RV's the cops whoever they may be will eventually show up. Just seems common sense to me.

This was mentioned in a few posts recently. Although I do understand electricity/wiring/etc I've never really had the "opportunity" to work on the trailer electrical (until I start mucking with the AC side of the new inverter install). But this got me thinking out of all the houses/electrical work I've done on houses I've lived in I've run into two problems (real problems)

1. a New modular home circuit where the romex for a circuit was coiled and must have been crimped/damaged in transit. About 3 weeks after inspection/certificate of occupancy a spotlight went out. I figured out it wasn't the bulb and noticed no voltage. Traced it to a broken wire, already melted and charred the wood.

2. a bathroom gfci outlet that my wife said seemed hot (after using the hairdryer). This case the connections were loose and the back of the outlet was melted badly.

My understanding was at travel trailers used the same code as say a mobile home and I've seen 14 and 12 ga romex in mine. So what is the real problem with running say 1000W as the only device on a circuit? Are you saying the connections are different/crap? As in all cases it comes to compromised connectivity that I know about.

You know Gentlemen you may be absolutely correct. I was going by the original OP's comment This doesn't appear to be the typical vintage RV fire situation. My thought was by looking at Oregon for the last year with all the looting, fires and such and the defund the police movement that my response sure could have been WRONG. I will admit that. I might be wrong with police or the sheriff department helping the local fire departments investigation also. If that's the case I apologize for my comment. I have seen many a fire here in Brownsville and the police is normally involved some way including always the fire department. If my comment offended anyone about the Defund the police movements, I apologize. Again I have to say thank God I live in Texas. Thanks

Well not really.
I guess I should have asked WHY you don't use your electric space heater when sleeping? Keep in mind that temperatures in the area were near freezing at night, do you run your gas furnace, or sleep cold.

Been reading up on your cheap heat setup. Sounds pretty interesting. If I lived in a colder environment I would have to think serious about this setup. Good information Sir. One more reason I went with my mini split system is for the heat pump within it. The heat output of the system is a lot better than the factory mounted top AC/Heat pump that comes with the trailer. Granted it's still a heat pump and has the qualities of all heat pumps with with not working below 40 degrees to well but sure works better than the factory roof top ones.
