Tire Help

So I was checking the air on the tires today preparing for our trip tomorrow and noticed a bunch of hairline cracks in the sidewall of the tires. The cracks are near the rim and run parallel to the rim around the tire. They have been on the 5er since we bought it so we know they are at least 2 years old (picked up 5er April of 2016). I was looking at the goodyear but it seems their loads range g has a lower weight rating then other load G I have looked at???? So looking for recommendations.

Current Tires: ARISUN CR960A ST235/85R16 129/125L
Load Range G
DOT 8DJL CN2 AND IN CIRCLE NEXT TO THAT IS 1515 (I AM GUESSING THAT IS DATE CODE)

5ER info : GVWR 17000lb GAWR 7000lb (Dual Axle)

Good thing you actually take time to look. Time to replace them. The 1515 means date of man. 15th week of 2015

There should be several folks on here that can chime in on the size of tire you are running. My observation would be that if you have the cracking around the wheel, with a 17000 lb. trailer, get them off.

I will add that all 4 tires have the same amount and type of cracking. We have a trip tomorrow morning it is 129 miles from home to campground then back on Saturday. Planning on putting 4 new on when I get back, just need help on which ones.

You might want to look into Sailun S637 there a good tire with good trac record. Half the price of Goodyear’s. I just put them on my rig and very happy with them.

Go buy the Sailun S637 Tires. Even if you can’t run at 110 PSI... and you should since you have G rated tires now

Look on backside of wheel and psi rating should be stamped somewhere.

I think the S637 is the best out there on the market both cost wise and performance wise

And No... I’m not running them

I doubt that those tires were Original Equipment tires. I've never seen a Keystone trailer with those as OEM.

Look on your trailer's certification label and find the OE tire size. They are the benchmark for all replacements. That means the OE tire size is the minimum requirement and anything with more load capacity will be a much desired optional load capacity increase.

If the previous owner upgraded the wheels for those tires, any ST235/80R16G would be the desired replacement. Look around and do some researching. Lots of ST tire manufacturers offer that size with steel casing, even Carlisle.

OK all, you know I don't do brand recommendations. I'm just adding this reference as new tire information.

rsl,

Your Arisun tires are warrantied by the manufacturer for 5 years from the date of manufacture. You say you bought it in April 2016 and the tires were manufactured the 15th week of 2015, so your tires are still covered. You can download the manufacturer's warranty here: http://www.arisuntires.com/index.php/service/service

Click on the third tab: "WHAT IS COVERED UNDER THIS WARRANTY AND FOR HOW LONG" and it will explain the terms.

I'm not suggesting you replace the tires with the same type/brand, but if the manufacturer will replace them for "pennies on the dollar", it's an option you might want to consider.

If you do contact the manufacturer, please let us know what kind of service they provide to you.

Good Luck

I think this is the one to use to use for his trailer tires. It's from page 21 in the current Keystone ceneric owner's manual.

I have been running Hartland ST235/85R16's (Load Range G) for 2 years - a little over 20,000 miles. No problems. OEM was ST235/80R16's, Load Range E. Hartland's fit with no problem, rated for 81 mph. Found them on Discount Tires' website. I have been very happy with them. Trailer GVWR is almost 14,000 lbs. so I keep tires at 100 psig. They appear to be wearing very evenly.

Sailun S637
235/80/16 rated 4080 at 110 psi
235/85/16 rated 4400 at 110 psi.
I chose the latter and run at 100 psi.

As full time RVer's and my rig being under a metal barn cover 9 months of the year---then when down in the Desert for 3---I always keep the sunlight off of them, and dang...It's a 2015 keystone bought in 2014 late summer...but I don't have a crack yet on them. Ok...time for me to lay down with a high intense light and look closer.

Slman, "Ok...time for me to lay down with a high intense light and look closer." Actually it is time to lay down some green-backs for some new tires. Your tires may be as old as six years.
