New 2017 F-350 dually.

Toying with the idea of buying a dually right after buying our 371 Fuzion over 2 yrs ago. We've been using our son in laws F-250 6-3/4' bed to tow with. Truck tows it fine but we've been over on the payload with the 3K plus hitch weight. His truck has the Reese Elite 18K fifth wheel with the puck system so it can be taken out easily and leaves a flush bed with no mounting rails inside the bed. Truck shop that does installs for the dealer is trying to see if the old mounting kits will work on the '17 truck and if its mounted flush with the bed if any potential problems due to a close to 2" bed height gain over the '16's. Guess I'll find out tomorrow. Maybe I missed something but all the pics I've seen are '17's hooked to gooseneck trailers and not 5th wheels.

Well..well..well

Now I'm finding out if you have a '17 Ford F-350 without the factory 5th wheel and gooseneck pkg. you're screwed until Reese gets the mounting kits out to the aftermarket suppliers. We have the 18K Reese Elite hitch that uses the puck system and would like to use it in the '17 for easy removal. Ford parts shows a number on the mtg bracket pcs. so we may have to get them from Ford.

Have you called Reese directly, I know their catalog and website say that the 2017 can't use the older mounts but I'm also seeing it said that they have since determined that they will fit.. Might be worth a call...

There are frame brackets available from other manufacturers besides Reese and Ford. Curt is one that comes to mind. They are made to match the holes already in your frame. Makes install easy. I have done it on a 2011 F250.

I called them this evening and was told they're not available yet for the '17's. I'm trying to use the Elite with the puck system. Still waiting to hear from Ford because they show a part number for use on the '17's using the factory puck style. Thanks Javi!

There were a couple of threads on one of the Ford diesel forums concerning the differences between the Reese and Ford underbed components. If I remember correctly, Reese makes them for Ford, but they are not the same. If I remember correctly, the Ford branded underbed system is all welded and requires removing or lifting the truck bed to install while the Reese system is bolted together. It can be installed "in parts" to the truck frame, then the crossmembers can be slipped through the wheelwells and bolted in place.

In the end, both are rated the same for the fifth wheel pucks, but the Ford underbed bracket is rated to carry more weight on the gooseneck component because of the way the crossmembers are attached (welded vs bolted).

I'm thinking that it will be more involved to install the Ford system, but at least it should be available as an accessory item through any Ford parts counter. No idea if Reese has released the aftermarket system for 2017. If I can find that forum thread, I'll post a link.

Thanks for the info...another reason to not buy a first year design! We'll get it figured out...I hope!

One of the diesel forums had some threads about installing a 2016 accessory system on a 2017 truck. They were working on a SRW F350. If I understood all that I read, the actual frame brackets fit the holes in the 2017 frame, but the crossmembers weren't the right width, so since it's all a welded, one piece system, they either had to cut it apart and reweld it or it wouldn't fit. So, they decided to not modify the underbed hitch and wait for Reese or Ford to send the 2017 hitch. I suppose that means that the 2017 is a different hitch.

You might want to doublecheck your bed. From what they said, there is a dimple in each of the 5 places where the bed has to be drilled for the "pucks". If that's true, should you have your bed sprayed before they drill the puck holes, you might increase the risk of drilling the holes in the wrong place (if the Linex covers those dimples that mark the location to drill.

Thanks for the info...I'll let you know how we make out on this problem. Looks like it may be awhile before Reese gets the mounting system on the market for the 17's so I can use my puck style 5th wheel.

The Ford/Reese puck style mounting bracket for truck's without the factory 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package is now available from Ford parts. For a measly $600 bucks not counting labor to install you can get one. I ended up ordering a Curt bracket kit made for the 17's and a new Curt 5th wheel. This is going to be mounted old school so the bed brackets will stay in the bed. These may end up helping to get a little extra height for the trailer to clear the taller bed rails on the 17's. Son in law will keep the Reese Elite 18K hitch we already have to use in his puck style system in his '12 F-250. Also going old school will eliminate having to cut the 4 holes in the bed to install the pucks. I also found out if you have a '17 model 4x2 Super Duty the factory prep package is not available yet...only on the 4x4's...crazy huh! I'm set to get it installed Tuesday next week and the bed lined at the same time. Bed will also be protected from any metal to aluminum contact. Keeping my fingers crossed...other then this fiasco with the 5th wheel mounting system the truck has been great with only 350 miles on the clock and averaging 15.5 in combination driving..rides great even with the FX4 offroad package.

Put a few miles this morning and stopped at Lakes End Park in Morgan City. This will probably be our first place to camp when I get the 5th wheel mounted and some more miles on the truck. Only 50 miles from our house and a beautiful campground.

Ordered my truck on Thursday. 2017 F-350 DRW SuperCab XLT diesel, 3.55 axle. Bronze fire exterior; camel interior. Ordered with the 5th wheel prep and the hitch from Ford. Opted for the blind spot system and the ultimate trailer tow camera system. I qualify for x-plan but got them down to about $900 below that. Using my Ford contacts to see if I can improve my priority in the production queue.

Sounds like its going to be a nice looking truck. All the 176" WB trucks come with the 48 gal fuel tank and a little over 7 gallon DEF tank. I've got the 4.10's so the sweet spot on the hwy empty is 2K rpm's or 67 mph. I may add a camera to view my hitch when hooking up if I need to.
