May have goofed. Question.

I winterized last weekend. Blew out all the lines as I normally do and then filled with pink from the water pump. All went well and was satisfied with the results. We have a Elite 23RB. When draining the fresh water tank the trailer has to be low on the nose to completely drain the tank. I knew there was still a little water in the tank even though the valve was open. Next weekend when I hook up to drag it to storage the nose will drop and the balance of the fresh water will drain. Last night when inside doing a final clean up I turned on the water pump switch while looking for the overhead light switch on the panel. The pump ran for probably 5 seconds. My question is- where is the water pick up in the fresh water tank? Running the pump as I did, would it have picked up any water from the bottom of the tank? I'm thinking for the sake of 10 bucks and a half hours time I should probably go through the motions again and re- winterize. Thoughts?? For the record I dropped the nose this morning and maybe drained another two gallons from the fresh water tank.

Re: May have goofed. Question.

Do you have the winterizing kit installed and were you still bypassed?

Re: May have goofed. Question.

No, I had disconnected the winterizing hose and had the pump reconnected to the water lines. Water heater is still in the bypass position.

So then it's likely that you pumped in a little water. I would think though that it would mix with the antifreeze and you'd be OK.

I would just reconnect the hose and switch it to bypass and run a little antifreeze through the pump. I personally would not bother flushing the whole system again.

Re: May have goofed. Question.

At most just do to the closest faucet but my guess it did not pick up any water. The forest water tank never gets fully emptied as it does not suck off the bottom of the tank.

Re: May have goofed. Question.

Zuley, I too have a 23RB.

The water line fitting on the FW tank for the hose to the pump is located about 3/8 of an inch from the bottom of the FW tank. I find that no matter how much I tilt my TT nose down (I have a 5 degree slope on my driveway), some water still remains in the FW tank. Like others suggested, I would run the pink stuff to the closest faucet just to be sure.

One mod I made to ensure that water does not get sloshed into the pump while transporting my winterized trailer to indoor storage was to replace the hose from the tank to the pump with a longer hose that has a loop that goes up about 9 inches. That way I have confidence that the water does not make its way back to the pump while in transit.

Re: May have goofed. Question.

Isn't there an inline valve on the tank to pump inlet line?

Not that I have ever seen or turned off. Great idea if in fact there was one.

One thing I did install on the two low water drains and the fresh water drain was brass ball valves. Rather than having to use somesort of a wrench to open the lines it's now just a matter of turning a handle.

Easy to add. Local hardware store will have the valve, and if you get the one with threaded ends you can tighten with a pair of pliers.

Re: May have goofed. Question.

I am right there with the post of spend additional $10 and have peace of mind.

I usually winterize mine, wait another week and do it again in case I missed something.

$10 peace of mind is worth a winter of not worrying!
