Shakedown Trip - Passport Elite 23RB
Headed out last weekend with our brand spanking new 2016 Passport Elite 23RB for our shakedown cruise.
A few thoughts/observations.
- The day we left, winds were blowing a steady 35 mph with higher gusts. Towing was a struggle. On even slight grades, we had to turn on our hazards because we were only getting up to 45 - 50 mph. The trip home, though, was a breeze (pun intended).
- It really IS easier to back a larger TT than a small pop-up. I was skeptical about these claims but we backed into our campsite with no problems.
- Got a site with full hook-ups to test everything out. It was a big learning curve since we've never had gray water/black water/water heaters/slide-outs/awnings/etc. I was anxious about this but it was much easier than I anticipated.
- Love, love, love this floor plan! Saturday continued to be windy, cool and rainy so we spent much of our time inside. It was SO comfortable and relaxing, and felt very roomy.
- Great windows in this rig. Our dogs loved lying on the bed and looking outside. With all the blinds open, there was a lot of natural light coming in.
- Amazing storage space. Coming from a hardsided pop-up, it's absolutely incredible to have room for everything with more to spare.
- Amazing counter space. Wow, wow, wow. I didn't have to shift stuff around to prepare meals. I don't think I realized how irritating that was until I didn't have to do it anymore.
- Knock on wood but at least for this first trip (300 miles RT) it seems Keystone produced a quality unit and that Windish RV in Denver did a great job prepping it. We'll see how it holds up over the next few trips but so far, so good.
- Weighed it on the way home. Looks like we need to get rid of or shift about 200 pounds of weight in the front to lighten up the tongue. Yikes! Luckily, that actually shouldn't be too hard. Just surprised we have that much up front right now. (Of course, we also have two propane tanks, two 6V batteries, an electric tongue jack and a WDH so that doesn't help.)
Okay, that turned out to be kind of long. All in all, incredibly happy with our choice and can't wait for the next adventure!

Very nice looking camper. Enjoy many, many more experiences in it! Wish we could just turn off the wind.

Ha! Then you won't be surprised to learn that this subject came up while we were camping.

It's an Equal-i-zer 4-point.

In the pic it looks as if the Passport isn't level and the back of the truck almost looks to be down a bit as well? Had to actually see from the back....

Hmmm...thanks for the observation. We'll take a look the next time we hook up.
