Durango vs. Ram 1500 Payload (Not a "Can I tow this question")

Found this interesting.

I have a 2008 Durango SLT Hemi 4X4 (no tow package) and a 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi 4X2 with tow package.

My '08 Durango has a higher payload capacity than my '14 Ram 1500 by about 80 lbs according to the door sticker. Both have rear coil springs.

Ram - 1,465

Durango - 1,545

I thought my Durango was based on the Dakota frame and chassis and therefore would have a much lower total payload (especially adding the 4X4)?? Just found this interesting.

Hmm- that IS interesting.
Given the choice between the two, the RAM should be able to tow a longer trailer with control due to the longer wheelbase.
The soft payload is purely due to the rear coil springs, not any deficiency.

I'm going threw this now with my Ram 1500 , just remember to subtract passenger weight , fuel weight and any thing else in the truck ,
I started out at 1200 lbs payload by the time I weighed the truck with passengers , fuel , running board's and tonnue cover I was left with 520 lbs payload " pretty said for a truck "
