I stopped by a local dealer today. Not a very big dealership, but they've been around for years. I took a second look at a Laredo 335TG. Really liked the lay-out and appears it would have plenty of room for us. Certainly not ready to make a purchase yet, but the salesman gave me the retail price, told me how much we could get it for, etc. That made me wonder if we might have more bargaining power if we wait until later in the fall or early winter.
At what point do dealerships start making really good deals to get their older models off the lot?

Feel free to tell us what msrp and price he quoted you. Take that pricing and Google exact model to, see if the msrp he gave you was accurate. Dealers can dictate their own msrp. Take a look at Holmans RV, Lakeshore RV or Petes RV online for comparison pricing.

I was quoted retail $44,800. Price quoted was $36,000 + tax & license. He also said they would include the hitch.
Guess I was a bit surprised that they immediately shared that information. I assumed we would only be quoted retail and then need to negotiate down. That's what made me wonder if there is a time of year dealerships are more likely to give better deals.
I need to find other dealers with Keystone models. Illinois is a big state and living in the central part of the state, we can pretty easily travel any direction to look at what's in stock. Not opposed to looking in surrounding states if that's what it takes. There is a possibility that we may end up living in this RV full-time for a while (2 adults, 2 small children and 3 dogs). We want to make sure we're getting the RV that will best fit our long-term needs while getting the best deal possible at the same time. Not so different from anyone else here I'm sure.

Many buyers have found a 20 to 25% below MSRP on their trailers. The catch is that the dealer can pretty well set his MSRP where he wants. So, you may find an RV at dealer X for 44,800 and an identical RV at dealer Y for 54,650 and yet another at dealer Z for 36,500.
Is 15 thousand off dealer Y's RV (39,600) really a better deal than buying it at MSRP from dealer Z?
I'd suggest looking on the internet, see what's available that you are interested in and contact those dealerships via email. When you feel comfortable with one or more of the available RV's, then get in the car and go look at it.
I've always negotiated from the BOTTOM LINE (all fees, total cost, taxes, license, etc included) if you start dealing with the RV cost, you'll likely find "prep charges" "documentation fees" "inspection fees" and a host of others thrown in for good measure. They all increase the bottom line, so deal from there.
Also, when it comes to "exterior protection packages," interior protection packages," and "extended warranties" keep in mind that they are upcharges that seldom pay for themselves and are a very lucrative "markup" for the dealership.
Good luck on your search

Very helpful information.
The only thing we know for sure is that we want a bunkhouse model. Beyond that, we really aren't sure what we want. Quite honestly, looking at floor plans and pictures on-line is only minimally helpful. Based on what I saw on-line, I didn't think I was going to like the Laredo until I actually saw it on the lot today.
Guess I'll keep searching for dealers that sell the bunkhouse models.

Contact Holman RV, Lakeshore RV, and wholesalervclub.com. I have found that then will email you there best, firm price for the unit you want. We bought ours from RV Wholesale Club which turns out to be Colerain RV's internet wholesale outlet. Price they emailed me was the price I payed.
