Hey all - just wanted to give a shout out about our recent trip.
2000 miles round-trip over the 4th of July pulling a 2008 Sprinter 311 BHS.
Several months ago I bought the RV TPMS system ftom TST:
http://www.tsttruck.com/RV_Tire_Systems.html
Got the display unit with (4) flow-through sensors - means you can check the pressure and/or fill while they're attached. This was our first long trip with it installed....
Anyway, after travelling about 350 miles, had a catastrophic blowout on the right-front tire. NEVER got any indication from the TPMS that the temp was high or the pressure was low. Felt the "tug" when it blew (we were at hwy speed) and a person came up on my left and pointed... I knew what it was.
Looked at my TPMS display... everything was normal.
Pulled over - two good Samaritan's also pulled over (two college-age guys) in a Jeep... they said they heard the explosion (top was off) and figured I could use some help.
Fortunately, just the tire exploded - no damage to the fender wall.
We changed out the tire and nervously finished our 800 mile drive.
I called TST and told them of my situation. I drive a 2010 Ram 2500 Megacab and the TT is 31-foot long.
I spoke with Mike at TST... he listened to everything I described (seemed like the signal was being dropped en route / no indications prior to or after the blowout) and he asked me if I had a repeater. He told me that most likely the issue was signal strength. While the system advertises 50' of signal, he told me that long TT's are having a problem and they recommend a repeater. He said he'd send me a repeater with a discount.
I then reminded him of the blowout and how even after it blew I got no indication... He explained "THAT'S RIGHT!! I forgot you said that!! We'll comp you a repeater, and I am going to send you the commercial grade receiver as well. Free of charge!!"
I asked how long it would take to get to where I was at. Gave him my zip code... He checked for a second and said, "Ummm, how does tomorrow sound?"
So - bottom line that I got a repeater and a new receiver overnight.
Followed the directions (you have to sync up the repeater to the receiver - and reset the sensors to the receiver) and wired the repeater to the battery.
Got the tire replaced (better quality / higher load bearing - $119) and we made it home without issue. Never once lost signal - saw the tires temp and pressure increase or decrease as the trip progressed.
Bottom line: I'm pleased with the TPMS but I'm even --MORE-- pleased with the customer service provided by Mike at TST. Buying gizmos for our toys is great... but when you get awesome customer service to back it up, just makes the purchase that much better.
Thought anyone looking for a TPMS might be interested in this... I also went to the TST website and provided positive feedback because I have noticed over time people are quick to complain but seem to forget praise.
Safe travels... hope this helps someone!
