Identifying Spring Bar Rating

I'm looking at a set of used spring bars to upgrade my WD system. They are definitely heavier than my 550 lb bars, but the label has been painted over so I can't easily tell what their weight rating is . The trunnion castings have "22210E" on them, but I'm not confident from a web search that that particular casting number was used only on a single type of bar. Does any one know if the dimensions of the bars will reveal their rating, and if so, what size = what rating?

The "22210E" is just a casting number and not relevant to the part number or the capacity of the bar. If the bar is 1 1/8" thick, it is either a 600# or 800# bar. If it is 1 3/8" thick, it is either a 1,200# or 1,700# bar. The trunnion head has different ratings as well. And there are links to other answers to related questions at the bottom of the page.

Reese bars have the weight stamped into them. At least every one I've seen, anyhow. I don't know about other manufacturers.

my experience with Reese bars as well.

Same here. it may be difficult to see because of the impressions being stamped unevenly or filled with paint, but they should be on there somewhere.

I looked at the 550 lb Reese bars that I'm replacing and there is no rating stamp anywhere on the bars but the trunnion castings have "550" on them. The used bars that I was looking at are also Reese but they have no discernible weight rating markings on them anywhere (perhaps because they are older?). One thing I noticed only after buying them is that they are about 2-1/4" shorter than the bars I am replacing.

I found additional information corroborating the dimensional information that SteveC7010 provided. My 550 lb bars are in fact 1" bars and the "new" ones are 1-1/8" so they are an upgrade. My only concern now is that the shorter bars will require moving the brackets on the trailer to a location that will interfere with my propane tank . Nothing is ever as easy as it should be.

I stand corrected. I was looking at my brother-in-law's Reese bars this weekend after we got him set up. They are older bars and do not have anything stamped in them to indicate weight. In this case you would have to use the bar size to determine the weight rating. Sorry.
