In our previous camper, we kept the original mattress. We actually put it in the house and put it under the bed on the floor. Five years later, when we traded for our next camper, we removed the one bought and put it in the new camper, and replaced the original (with the original cover and everything) back into the old camper. It had never been slept on either. I don't think it added any extra value for the trade in, but it made me feel better knowing original equipment was going with the camper and I didn't have to surrender our, much more, costly matteress.
The one we bought went in the house, actually on a bed now, and we used the new mattress that came with the new camper until it shreaded completely. It lasted a year. Then we bought a new mattress again, and by this time, the original mattress replaced another one in the house. Eventually, we ended up with one, old enough and ratty enough I finally burned it (we can burn where I live), folded up the springs after burning, used my bolt cutters and chopped it up and it took 3 weeks of trash pick up, putting some of that metal spring in the trash dumpster, little bits at a time, until it was all gone.
