Whoa, I spoke too soon.
Harris County (Houston) Judge Lina Hidalgo, AKA: "el Commandante", said nope.
We're pretty sure she did this to show us that she can.
Not sure about other counties. I don't live in Harris County. I would assume our county judge would OK it. He plays fiddle in a country band and might want some work.
Yep I live in the redneck capitol of Texas, and love it.

I'm not surprised about Houston but didn't Gov. Abbot say that individual counties/cities cannot impose their own limits....or have I read so much "stuff" that I'm mixing it up? We have no issue in this neck of the woods...yes, redneck.

How can you live in a state with the beer joints closed and love it? Just doesn’t sound right to me!

The bar down the road from me has been open, I think they get away with it by still claiming to be a private club instead of a bar (still a dry area of the county) but all you have to do is give them your drivers license so they write your DL# down and you become a member.

Ahhh, the old days when everything was "dry". Used to go in to eat but couldn't have a beer because it was dry....but, you could become a member right then and there, add $3 to the tab and you were good for a year...

I think some bars get away with it because they have started serving food and claim they are a restaurant now. Not sure of the details.
Houston finally got "liquor by the drink" when it became ridiculous that you had to join their club. So many companies relocated down here and brought so many people with them that found that situation crazy.
I rarely drink away from home. I'm just not going to drink and drive.

Even Billy Bob's is now a restaurant.... no more 51%
I haven't been in a "BAR" in years and Billy Bob's was never a bar...
All the Taverns around here have been open for 50% occupancy for some time now... They just have to be less than 51% of their gross revenue from alcohol.

I would hate to own a bar these days. My head would explode trying to navigate the laws.
Years ago some area bars would have a steak night. Show up and get a free steak. Health Dept shut that down. They didn't conform to the restaurant codes.
I don't keep up with the rules very much. Only one I pay a little attention to is 51% liquor rule regarding carrying concealed.

Yeah if it's a dry county the only way to serve is being a private club. I think.
It hasn't been that long that my county legalized liquor sales. Was just wine and beer.
