Premier 30RIPR

Just traded-in the Cougar for a Premier 30RIPR at the Philly RV Show. Very excited to camp with it this year. The family really likes the rear living room floor plan. Quite a departure from our ol bunk house. I am a little curious how it tows with the wide stance axles. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Hi SkyPiGG,

Congrats on the new RV.

My family and I are looking at getting the premier 31BHPR.

My kids are almost 2 and 4 years old.

You said you went from a bunk house to rear living, I am just curious why, kids get older? I like the openness of the rear living, but wonder how the sleeping is?

Pros and cons of one layout of another?

Thanks.

I would think it comes down to the kids have their space or their beds get set up each night and as they get older and sleep later, they are in the living space all morning. My wife's rule was always to have enough beds so couches and/or tables would never be needed.

We moved from a bunk house to a rear living room because our daughter is too tall for the bunks now. The sofa in the rear turn into a nice futon bed. Plenty of room for sleeping, yet a better living space.

We have stayed away from the bunk house because we like more living space. Our kids (3) are all entering their teenage years and we spend more time as a family and like the extra space especially if the weather is bad. To me the bunk house is "wasted space" except at bed time. Our thought is when everyone goes to bed they can set up the sleep sofa and our son puts a twin air mattress on the floor, we aren't using the living room space for anything else at that time anyway. One thing we did find is that it's still important for us to be able to get to and use the kitchen in the morning until the kids get up. That is the reason we got rid of our last unit, the layout didn't really separate the two spaces so when they set up beds in the living room it pretty much took up the kitchen as well.

With that said, I think we would like the bunk house if our kids were smaller, good place for them to have toys and such and go play without cluttering up the rest of the RV.

I guess we are a little selfish, we bought a camper for us, not the kids. They won't be going with us much longer anyway.

I think it is great that everyone is so different, as I said early, we have a bunkhouse that we bought last year so we do not have to use the table and couch for sleeping, no set up. Our youngest is 19 and still camps many trips when not away at college plus the bunkhouse gives me the large outdoor kitchen that I required. Friends of our bought a trailer for them but their son still cames with them but no longer fits on the couch and grandpa now camps with them so he has the table, more work than they had planned on but they are still camping. Have fun all.

Exactly, my wife and I looked at so many different RVs before buying our current one. Thought we would like others based on floor plan and then found out we hated them when we got in them. After owning other RVs you learn the little things that you like or dislike (I hate the plastic clips on closet doors!). If we all liked the same things, there wouldn't be so many different options out there. Some love the bunkhouse, others don't, each for various reasons. I don't think there is a "perfect" RV made, just the one that has more of what you like than others. It all depends on what is important to you.

Congratulations! I hope that yours is in better condition when you pick it up than mine was. (See my post under warranty) Make sure you scrutinize the condition thoroughly when you do your walk-through/demo. I'm sure I'll be posting after I have our first trip. Please keep in touch. I'm sure we'll learn from each other's experiences.

Just pulled home our new 30RIPR

Hi all... we just pulled home our new 30RIPR, I have a 03 Ford F150 4x4 Supercrew with a 5.4 in it. I was a little concerned if it would pull okay. WOW,I was impressed how smooth it went. We had the dealer install a equalizer hitch, best $485 I've spent. Trailer and Pickup were level. Couldn't tell I was pulling a 6700 pound trailer. I was a little concerned with the heaves in the roads from the spring thaws, trailer went smoothly over everything. Not sure if the new axil configuration made a difference or not. Trailer rode very smoothly though.

Our 13' 32BHPR tows excellent with the sway bars. Were towing it with a 2012 Silverado short bed reg cab with the 5.3 and she goes great!
