You're probably out of warranty, so it's your choice. I would go with what Chevy recommends. But there are some new choices since 2008.
I don't think you would go wrong with Shell Rotella, Chevron, or Mobil1. I believe 5w-40 covers all bases....cold starts as well as higher temps. All are readily available if you need a quart or a oil change while on the road.

I had one of these on my 1500. When it comes time to change the oil in my 3500, I'll be getting the same style.

I bought the oil in gallon jugs. Kept the empties and drained the used oil into them at the next change. Eliminated the need for the oil pan and lot cleaner job.

Yeah, I had one of those on my F-150. Nice and clean and no wrench needed. However, there is a big difference in draining 6 quarts versus draining 13 quarts. Those things drain very very slowly. Sure they are clean and I guess if you have all day for it to drain then by all means go for it!

The 1500 was a 7 qt system. With the Bi-pass that made it a little over 8. Sure it took longer to drain, but with not having to drain the oil out of the pan and into containers and then cleaning up the mess, I figured the time was a wash.

Synthetic !!!!!

It's an insurance policy .... My opinion it's worth the little extra cost!

Chrysler MS-12633 specification

Due to the new 6.4l HEMI in my truck, I can only use certain synthetic oil. MOPAR has a product and Pennzoil makes one as well. That's it.... There are no other options, at least as of yet anyway. More info: http://www.pennzoil.com/press/new-pe...-srt-vehicles/

I think Pennzoil makes a 0W-60 for Europe. May be factory fill in Ferrari's. That would be interesting in a U.S. performance car.
