What year duramax mileage
Seems most prefer the duramax diesel over the 6.0 gasser.
Next question is which year is going to perform better pulling and mileage? LBZ LMN etc etc
Some years require an exhaust delete of sort to run properly etc, did you have to do anything? Have heard something about this in the 2008+ and the 2010+ trucks.
Do you run a tuner like EFI LIVE to get better performance towing that travel trailer?
Thanks guys

Towing a trailer with about 8000 GW any year stock Duramax will preform just fine. The initial cost of the diesel seems to be the deciding factor these days for folks with lite-weight trailers. JMHO, Hank

Duramax Info by Year
I can't help any with the mileage figures, but here's a "cheat sheet" I generated several years ago when I was researching Chevy HD trucks and engines. I really wanted a pre-'07 (before the EPA started screwing with diesels). Finally ended up with an '06 Ram 5.9 Cummins TD. Always been a Chevy guy, but the Ram deal was too good to pass up. I like Chevy interiors a lot better, but that Cummins is tough to beat.
Duramax Diesel

2006 2 LLY 320 560 1,600
2006 D LBZ 350 650 1,600
2007 D LBZ 350 650 1,600

That table didn't paste very well. Should read like this:
Year = 2005
8th VIN = 2
Engine Code = LLY
HP = 320
Torque = 560
Torque @ RPM = 1600
And so on...
Don't know if this has been a Tow Vehicles forum topic or not, but it would be interesting (to me anyway) to hear peoples experiences with pre '08 and '08 and newer diesels. Especially the folks that have had both.

2012 LML and I get 18 mpg every day driving and 20/21 open hwy. when pulling my fuzion I get 13 mpg. It weighs about 14,500 loaded. As for a programer I'm not running one yet. I plan on getting one in the future. www.duramaxtuner.com. The spade tuner is what everyone on the duramax Forum says is the best. But banks is working on unlocking the map on the LML and if they do that's the way I'm going. They told me they should have it ready in the spring.

Duramax LMM?
I have heard the LMLs get good mileage. Can anyone tell me about the LMM duramax? I have heard they are pretty bad. ???
So I would have to jump from a 2007 LBZ to what, a 2011 LML?

I have a 2007 Duramax LMM all stock and tow a 331MKS. I get approx. 12 US mpg cruising at about 60 to 65 and avoid hard acceleration and take it reasonably easy on the hills. I did hear all the fuss about terrible fuel mileage and think it was all blown out of proportion I have not really regretted buying it. I think it's nice to have the new style body but not the expense of having to buy the urea that is needed for the newer Diesels. Just my opinion

If you want mileage get an lb7 duramax 04 and down. Keep the fuel filters changed , tune with Efi live from a respectable tuner like Danville performance, duramax tuner, Idaho rob, etc... Tell the tuner exactly what you want and go from there.
Edge juice with attitude will get you some mileage as well, but once an Efi live time is on there you will be more than satisfied.

My LBZ would get 16 around town and 21 on the highway empty. 13 while towing my 12k 5er. The only mods were that it was blocked and fingered, and a PCV reroute. (which I gained 1-2mpg with)
My LML only has 3500 miles on it and I think the numbers will get better. 14 around town and 18 on the highway empty. 12 while towing the 5er. It is all stock...for now!

My LBZ gets around 13 mpg towing a 7000 lbs. snowmobile enclosed trailer and 12-13 with the Laredo at around 8000 lbs. Running Duramaxtuners Stock Trans tunes with the DPS5 switch. 5 tunes, Stock, Heavy Tow, Light Tow, Performance Economy, and Race. Stock HP, 60,80,100, and 130. The truck runs much smoother with the tunes and gets 19-21 mpg empty highway and 16 around town on the 100 hp setting. The 2 tow tunes also include a turbo brake when your in Tow/Haul mode. Nice setup, spendy but very nice.

I have the LMM, LOVE it! I Get around 16mpg around town & 19mpg highway.
When I tow my 14,000 (loaded up) trailer I average around 10mpg & that's stock.
My warranty runs out this month & I'll be investing in the Banks "Stinger" system & "SpeedBrake" for a 20 to 30% better fuel economy. (per Banks)
Anyone thinking of doing an exhaust delete, be careful, it's illegal. And any tuners added to a truck still under factory warranty WILL void the warranty.

I have had an 2003 LB7 with 190,000 when I sold it and currently have an 2006 LBZ under 80K, tuned with EFI Live (by Idaho Rob) and love his tunes. I personaly picked the LBZ because i didn't want any emssion devices on the truck. The LMM is almost identical with addition of the DPF which can also be deleted and tuned but you have the new body style (which I prefer the OBS). Now with the on coming of the 2015, I really like the looks of the GMC and have been trying to talk myself out of spending the money on a new one. Maybe a used one a couple of years down the road...

Get the following mpg so far:
Highway on Cruise: 22 or so
Highway Towing on Cruise: Between 13 and 14
Around Town: Between 16 and 18 depending on how I drive
Overall, the GMC gets 30% better economy than my 5.6L Tundra Dbl Cab did. Granted fuel costs are more and I paid a premium for the engine/tranny. The performance and stability towing is outstanding. Love the diesel engine braking for control on downhills and stopping.

Where are you that an exhaust brake is illegal?? It is at times illegal to use un-mullfled, but here in the NW 100% legal.
My bad, I read what I wanted, not what was there!

Duramax tune
Just found out that the LML or 2011 and newer cannot be tuned by EFI Live etc.
So looks like if a person wants to improve mileage, it must be a 2010 or older. Hmmmm.

I have an 05 with EFI Live on it. Been running it about 1.5 years now and love it. The heavy tow tune with the turbo brake is awesome. In a way it works to good. I have to take tow/haul mode off sometimes because it gets on my nerves during slow traffic. The economy tune probably helped me pick up a couple of mpg alone. You have more power so your transmission rarely downshifts. It just keeps putt putting along up hills. I went with Idaho Robs tunes.

This is not a true statement.
Kory Willis of http://ppei.com/ has sucessfully been tuning LML's for some time!
