Weigh safe.............

I did search the forum but did not find any recent posts on this product.

It seems like a good product. Like most things, it seems more expensive than other WD hitches (that do not have the scale) but as I need a new WD hitch I would love to hear peoples views on it. Gadget or useful?

CAT scales cost a few bucks. I have never paid to wt. I use DOT scales, In Oregon and here in ID there are around and free. Just use them when there closed.
I cannot see that your weight needs to be known on every trip or hookup, it will not be changing much from trip to trip. Load it up and get it checked and be done with it. Lets say you pay 12 bucks a CAT scale visit and do 5 visits vs extra money on that hitch.

Thanks. Seems sensible advice. As you say the weight won't change much once we've got a set load.
I've used the CAT scales with the app ($13 and $3 reweigh) and it was very quick and easy.
Now I've got the base measurement of the TV fully loaded with full tank that doesn't need to be reweighed again either.

If it wasn't much more expensive than other WD hitches then it might be worth getting one with the scale on it.

Any WD hitch recommendation?
GVWR trailer 7400.
10-15% = 740-1110lbs.
Do you need to buy WD hitch with some weight to spare?
Better with sway bar?

Thanks

I love my weigh safe hitch, but I only have one with the scale, no WDH. 22' 14k lbs flat deck trailer hauling about 8k of Kubota & implements. I can balance my load perfectly with proper tongue weight every time no matter what unusual load.

I just upgraded from a 4k 17' Casita to a 35' Carbon. Getting a crash course in the value of a WDH & sway control. Never even came close to needing those with the flat deck with a load, even though it it often exceeds the weight of the Carbon.

I think its a waste of money. You will do better to get a solid and sound weight distribution system, like the 4 point Equal-i-zer or Curt, weigh the tongue of the trailer with the camper loaded once and you will be good.

I can see where this hitch would be useful if you are using a utility trailer, or multiple utility trailers that carry multiple types of loads and you want to check the actual tongue weight with every load and trailer you transport. But if using the same trailer, and you have only 1 trailer, it's loaded pretty much the same way every time you hit the road. Oh, you may travel with full tanks and full propane tanks, but if you weigh the trailer with everything loaded, you know this will be the max it will ever be. No need to weigh again and again and again. It's a waste.

Very good idea for those who use multiple trailers and carry multiple weights of loads, but a waste if you tow only 1 trailer and it's always the same trailer.
