but I'm sure they need to xray surrounding areas and replace the entire girder from rivets to rivets.....and all the other DOT specific stuff that is required including checking both sides for other possible cracks...

Did you see the picture of the worker sitting on the girder by the crack?
That fault is massive. Wonder where the steel came from, that should not have happened in the time frame.
Hopefully they can just replace the girder rivets to rivets but I am thinking there were stresses of unbelievable magnitude and xrays will show more damage.
We need to invest in our infrastructure in a BIG way.
Think of all we could have done had we not got involved in Afghanistan,
and the Trillions spent there over the last 16 years.
