The movie "The Alamo" was shot at Alamo Village north of Brackettville on the Shahan Ranch. You used to be able to go tour the village which was a movie set for many movies shot there. When old lady Shahan passed a number of years ago her children had no interest in keeping the site open to the public. The Shahan ranch was a huge and working ranch; not sure if it still is. Our church had a cowboy re-enacting group that competed there against others as they put on skits. Alamo Village also had folks that had shoot outs on main street. Sad when it closed. The scenes of "San Antonio" in Lonesome Dove were shot on the main street of the village.
