Anchoring to Exterior Sidewall
I am getting ready to replace my triple fold-out entry steps with a solid step option (MorRyde). Currently I have a gas strut on the entry door that holds it open to 90°. I will have to eliminate the strut when I install the solid steps, so I am going to install a T-latch and bracket to the door and the side of the RV to hold the door open. Any suggestions on the best fastening methods to the door and the laminated fiberglass sidewall?

I would just use some stainless steel sheet metal screws, maybe 1/2" to 3/4" long. You might also use seal tape between the bracket and the wall. Most of those strut kits come with screws.

get the stainless steel, not the plastic as it wont break. Use butyl/putty tape behind the screws and try to put the door part on the frame if possible so it holds better.

If you have young kids I'd use a magnetic catch. Little ones can yank on the door and pull the screws out if they get rambunctious.

Good point. Our daughter turns 8 on Monday and between her and the DW there is no shortage of to-do’s for me.
Any thoughts on converting to a friction hinge instead?

Skip the friction hinges. Read some of forums where folks have those from the factory & can't keep the flimsy doors together.
They have a magnetic type at most hardware stores that consist of a 2-3" long post type that goes into a magnetic disc on the other side.

Use the one Danny shows and mount it with Alien tape. No holes

Thanks guys, all great ideas! I like the magnetic catch as opposed to the T-latch or friction hinges, so I will go that route. Heading to HD tomorrow for a set of 100 lb. drawer slides for my outdoor kitchen and will add the magnetic catch to the list.

We removed our 90 degree strut and keep our door open by hooking a piece of rope to the catch on the door (where the screen door latches too) and to the block we use under our front stabilizing jack. This has worked for 5 years and we didn't need to drill into the trailer.

So I found a set of powerful low profile magnets for RV doors. One didn’t seem to have enough holding power so I added 2. I like that they are pretty unobtrusive but work great. The new steps are AWESOME!
