what would you recomend

we took our new camper out for the first time last week and loved everything about it, kid got to run and play outside all day, got to meet some great people and eat some great food. only one problem that i didnt figure for was a mattress, the noe that it came with, for lack of a better word, SUCKS!!! i figured it was good when we got it but when you try to sleep on it, might as well be on the ground.
what has everyone put in theres to sleep on and/or what would you recomend on getting. planing on going out next weekend so would love to get something to take its place

Many members have experienced the same problem with their OEM "mattress" and have solved the issue in a variety of ways.

Some have replaced the whole mattress with a new one while others have purchased a "mattress topper" of some description and placed it over the existing one. Some have gone to high density or memory foam and still others have bought an "RV mattress" from Camping World or other RV supply places.

To some extent, it depends upon the thickness of your wallet, the size of your current mattress and how much room you have to work with. You can spend a little or spend a lot to upgrade your mattress.

Try doing a forum search ---- type in 'mattress" and you'll find plenty of posts about this topic and what others have done to remedy this very common problem.

I can't say I've ever been happy with the mattress that came in any RV I've owned either.

We went to Wal-Mart the first night out and bought a nice 3" mattress topper.

i kinda like it soft, but i know it wont ever be like the one in my house, i just want something to where i dont fill like im on just a peace of wood. i would rather sleep on the sofa in the tt than the bed lol

We bought an egg crate foam pad plus a mattress top and it is fine for us. Have looked at Camping World but they want in the ballpark of $800 for a new mattress. Looked at Sleepy's as they advertise short queens but when I went to a store, they had not idea what I was talking about and said they never heard of such a thing.

NOPE!! The cats generate more heat. We also have a max-air fan on the vent over the bed and usually run it on low speed blowing in. In the hot summer months it's set on blowing out.

We've done both the memory foam topper and the new "regular" mattress. Both solutions worked for us. When we were full timing and sleeping in the RV every night it made sense to us to spend the extra money and get a mattress that was comfy. We just went to our local mattress store, laid down on their demo units, picked the one we liked and they had the factory make it to fit, short queen.

In our current TT, which we don't full time in, the memory topper made more sense and still worked nicely.

We spent one night on the mattress in our new Laredo. Hated it. Pulled it out and sent it to Goodwill and replaced it with an 8" memory foam mattress from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Best-Price-Mat...+Foam+Mattress

I was skeptical but it is very comfortable and the DW wants one for the house.

We bought a 10" memory foam mattress from Costco. Now it is as comfortable as the S&B bed.

we bought a serta queen(60x80)and move it from camper to camper when trading.if you have a short queen they are expensive and usually have to come from an rv store.we paid 300 for our serta at sams club.we also put a 3 inch memory foam topper on it.put the old one in storage and when u trade swap em out again,it will look like new,let the next guy replace it.

We slept on our stock mattress about 2 nights and hated it. I actually ended up sleeping on the loveseat-sized foldout couch the second night, with my body cranked in about a 45 degree angle position.

Bought this topper from Camping World shortly thereafter, and the bed is now nearly as comfortable to sleep on as our bed in the house. I highly recommend this item.

What we have found is that toppers seem to work best for us. The thing I noticed with any mattress is they are not as comfortable in an RV as they are at home. I believe this is due to the solid wood base vs. a box spring which also has a little give. We have used egg crate and memory foam, both with good results, just pay for a quality one and I'm sure you'll be happy.

Although, I do like the idea of a sleep number, that can be adjusted to meet your needs.

When we got our first TT it took me 2 nights before I could fall asleep on the mattress. By then, it was just exhaustion setting in. We once had a memory foam topper in our house and liked it so much we bought a memory foam mattress. They are very heavy and we were concerned about adding too much weight to our TT, so we bought a 2" memory foam topper. You wouldn't think 2" of foam would make that much difference, but it did. When we bought our new TT this summer, that was the first thing that got moved. There are some that hold the heat, but if you read the box, you can find some that say "cool comfort" or something similar. We've found that the ones that come with a cover are better. Good luck! That was our experience, which I think is the most cost effective (Costco, cool comfort with a cover) and extremely comfortable (at least in our experience). My wife has bad hips, so we have the topper at home (over a very expensive mattress) and I sleep like a baby (who never awakens during the night). When in the 5er it feels like the same mattress. (Thumbs up!)

The trailer has a short queen, so get an electric knife and cut the few inches off the topper for a custom fit. Use good sheets made from your favorite fabric and enjoy the nest.

We had a similar problem and visited a local foam supply house. $105 later, walked out with a 4" thick piece of high density foam cut to our requested size to go under the factory matress. Added a cheap memory foam topper from Walmart and had a VERY comfortable bed!

Our first trailer had the regular piece of board mattress - we purchased a really nice topper for the mattress. Our new TT had the "deluxe" mattress and that was not much better than the board mattress. Since we have a full size queen in the new trailer we went and purchased the memory foam mattress (same as the house) at Sam's Club for 383.00. Sleep like a baby now. One of the best investments we have made so far.
