Issues on side of RV

Was starting to get things ready for the first outing today and noticed four small spots above the basement on the curb side. Looks like the fiberglass surface is gone. RV was stored next to my pole barn. Any ideas what could have caused this? Any way to repair it? Thanks.

Never seen that before, but if it was mine I would clean the area with denatured alcohol and seal with Pro Flex.

I keep wondering, is the color gel coat or paint on fiberglass trailers?? If its gel coat you could gwt a repair kit in white, mix some up, and dab it in.

With it being rusty looking & all similar sized I'd put my money on BBs. If it's not cracked to let water in it's probably ok, but if cracked it needs to the filled or patched somehow.

Any shotgun blast holes in corresponding polebarn wall? Sure looks like shotgun bb's. I was also wondering about a woodpecker (as someone else said) but they are awful nice and round? Probably cover with caulking.

Just went out to look at this issue again. If you notice on the far right, there is another circle that appears to be breaking through. Seems like the issue is happening from the inside out. Perhaps air pockets or something under the fiberglass. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow.

Look's to me like Woody the Woodpecker came to visit to me. The holes are all about the same distance above that hinge which they could perch on. There different species of those birds that vary in size. I think the "rust" that travellin Texan is seeing is actually the foam under the laminate as bb's are made from copper and pellets from a pellet gun are typically lead and neither rust. Shotgun pellets can be steel (some states require it because of lead shot poisoning wildlife) but if a shot gum blast was close enough to penetrate the gel coat with the holes that close together there would be a dozen or so holes there. JMHO from experiences as a long time hunter shooting sportsman.

... and you would find pellets embedded in the holes, or on the ground under the panel. I also vote "not a shotgun blast or bb gun damage".

Good luck with the repairs!

Air voids in the boating world are definitely a thing. I guess it kind of depends on construction method though. Typically in boats gel coat is the first thing sprayed into a mold then fiberglass is rolled onto the backside of the gelcoat. If it wasn't done well this is where you get the air voids. Not sure on Keystones production process/or materials though on these panels.

Dealer logged the problem as a manufacturing defect. He noticed the one not broken through yet. Will see what Keystone has to say. Definitely not BB's or shotgun. Pole barn would have been hit first. Doubt woodpecker either. We have 41 acres mostly wooded. There are plenty of other places for them to peck other than into fiberglass. Possible yes; likely no.

Could it be some other insect activity, like a carpenter bee?

I have a 2016 327 Res and have the exact same thing in the same spot on mine. It has been at the dealer all winter for other repairs and when they were doing the final inspection before shipping it back to me they found them. The dealership is fighting with Keystone to repair it. I purchased it last April. Interested to see what they tell you.

Sure looks like fiberglass is delaminating my passenger side basement door started off just like that. Dealer and Keystone worked together and it was replaced under good will. .

This started out with a few small dots and then started chipping.

Picked the Alpine up at the dealer on Saturday and found these new pockmarks on the LR slide. Dealer did slide maintenance while in (lubed seals and rails). Could they be using something causing this?
(pic is sideways for some reason instead of vertical)

That is the oddest thing. I don’t have any idea, but will share the pics with coworkers. Maybe they have seen it.

It sure loooks like water got down in there, pooled up, froze, and voided the skin.. as it continues to warm up more void spots will show... water intrusion...

That looks like frameless window just above.. I’d be looking at lower inside edge of window from inside to see if there are traces of water streaks

Picture is sideways. Window is to the right side of the pits, not above them.
