cable tv hookup?

I have a 2008 Cougar 5th wheel with an Olevia TV with Jensen thingy under it.
I have tried everything I can think of but have never been able to hook up to the RV Cable TV. I have scrolled through "source" with the Olevia remote and I get the following choices: HDMI, VGA, VGA-Component,
Tuner, Composite, S-Video, and Component. When I try the Menu for each of these I cannot find anywhere the word CABLE. Do I need a Receiver in order to get this Cable in the campgrounds?
I have read in several posts that it is necessary to turn off the Boost on the Antenna input coax and I have done that.
As you can tell, I don't have much of a clue when it comes to this stuff.
I also hope to hook up the Internet somehow in order to receive netflix but that will be another can of worms I am sure.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I can understand your frustration - we have the identical TV. After a lot of experimenting, I finally did this:
1) Press the Source button on your remote to Tuner.
2) Using the remote control, press Menu
3) Press the Down arrow key ---> Setup
4) Press the right arrow key
5) Press the Down arrow key ----> TV Press right arrow key
6) Press the down arrow key ----> Auto Channel Search Press right arrow key
At this point, you should be able to find Air (antenna) and Cable. There are two options here --- air and cable.
When you get to the Cable, there will be a search then you have to select the option to enter each station. You have to do this one station at a time.

On our last outing, we finally figured this whole thing out. Unfortunately, I didnt copy down the last few steps that will take you to the Cable option so I hope I have got this right --- it is from memory (that is scary!!)

Like you, I thought I would plug in the cable, turn on the TV and all the cable stations would appear. Not so.

Many, many, many thanks

Festus,
You saved the day. My wife is no longer on my case. Your instructions were excellent. After the search finished the stations just came on. Then I couscroll up through each channel.

Thank you so much.

After this wonderful "success", I will relax for a while before asking how to hook up Internet thru WiFi for Netflix on the TV. May I call upon your expertise at a later date for this info?

Hello MadMax,

Congradulations on getting your TV programed to the local channels.

Regarding Netflix on the TV it is very easy. I am able to connect my smart phone to my TV through HDMI. If you have a smart phone with an HDMI out put it can easily be done. Simply turn on your HDMI output on your smart phone, connect the HDMI cable from your phone to the HDMI input on your TV, then select HDMI for the source on your TV.

Good luck,
Ken

Wireless Internet to TV

Ken,
Thanks for the info re the smart phone. Unfortunately I don't have one of those.
However I am going to try using my old laptop which receives Internet wirelessly, and purchase a cable with a VGA connector on one end and an HDMI connector on the other end (for the TV). I believe I will also need a cable to connect to the headphone jack on the laptop and the other end to one of the audio jacks on the TV. I think I saw this somewhere on the internet.
Do you think this might work?

MadMax,

I believe this will work. However I do not know if they sell such a cable with VGA on one end and HDMI on the other. But I have certainly been wrong before. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Thanks
Ken

Here is a link to a cable, but I'm not sure how this actually works, ratings are 2 star which probably tells me it doesn't work for very many applications: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Gold-...pr_product_top

There are other cable options out there that say "active" which means they probably need some sort of an external power supply. I did not look at the details.

However, I did another quick google search for an actual converter "black box" and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-Audio-C...+vga+converter

There quite a few options out there, this was just the first one I saw to give you an idea.

Wireless Internet to TV

Yes it seems I do need a cable that doesn't normally exist. I have heard that a simpler solution might be to purchase a wireless DVD player and hook it to the HDMI TV. It sounds simple enough so I will give it a try.

Thanks all for your help. I will advise if this works

With a little help we were able to configure a wireless DVD player to provide Netflix to the HDMI TV.

Glad you got it working but I just want to warn you that most campground Wi-Fi does not allow video streaming ... they just don't have the bandwidth to let everyone at the same time and may limit connection time also. JM2¢, Hank
