Exclamation King bed frame

Question I have a 3553 Astoria, the king bed is on the slide, my question is shouldn’t the bed frame be attached to wall or slide? Mine is not & tends to move especially if there is no mattress or something securing it against dresser when in. Any thoughts?

Yours is a Dutchmen product, not Keystone, but the installation principles should be the same. The head of the bed pedestal should be attached to the floor in the slide while the foot floats so it can slide in and out. There should be casters or something underneath to allow the foot to glide in and out on the main floor without hurting it.

Does this help? How is yours moving that you think is incorrect for it?

Correct it is a Dutchman but it is a subsidiary of Keystone. Yes your answer did help, when we picked up the camper & came home, the entire bed had shifted because support beam was broke where hinged top was fixed to. We then noticed bed was away from wall. We are returning it to the dealer for repairs & removed mattress. Was able to move entire frame at that time. Just wanted some clarification that this was also an issue.

I'll be damned, he's right! I sure missed when that happened.

Bed in Keystone

As a new owner of a Keystone Outback 341 RD, I found a problem with our so called , king size bed. When we got the trailer it has a mat not a mattress, so I checked the size, it’s not a king, it’s a Queen Short. 66x72. Why would Keystone advertise that it has a king when it’s a queen short base?

That's because the bed frame is a standard size used in pretty much every camper. The mattress size can be different. Yes, the larger mattress will overhang the edges of the frame. Yes, that makes for edges that may be soft and bend, but most mattresses are stiff enough it's not a real issue.

In our camper, there is a good 12 inches on each side between the edge of the frame and the edge of the mattress. On the end, there is about 10 inches. We currently have a full king. It came with a cheap-o King, we replaced it with a much better and thicker one. No problems with the edges, unless we stand on the bed edge to reach the air conditioner above the bed to clean the filter. Then, we need to be sure we are not "standing" on the edge, but within the actual frame work.

Some people have, in the past, installed a wider platform that sits on the frame so the wider mattresses will not overhang so much.

So basically, the camper was advertised, not for what you actually get in it, but for what you COULD put in it. Like..... they are advertised for an 18 cubic foot refrigerator. Well, that could be a Samsung, or a Frigidaire, or an LG.

As with nearly every new 5er or TT, the original mattress might be a popular trade name by label only, however, it is the lowest quality from the maker.
We were also totally dissatisfied with the original mattress even after adding a topper.
The fix was ordering a custom sized mattress from Brooklyn Mattress. The mattress we received fit well and has been a most comfortable addition.

Are you measuring the base or the mattress? As has been said the base will be smaller generally. The mattress sizes have been posted - they aren't the same as a residence.

Hi everyone, got the size figured out. It’s a short king. 72X75. So we are going to wait till the snow is gone, then we are going to buy one. Thanks to everyone you helped.
