2020 Raptor 356?

Hello all,

Is the front cap of these 2020 Raptor 356's shaped to allow a short box truck to turn without the use of a slider hitch?

Trying to avoid buying 2 hitches. but need to be able to move it short distances for a year or so.

No they are not. You will need the slider hitch. I have the 2020 raptor 356 and a short bed. Went with the pull rite 2900 auto slider. So far I am very happy with it other than not having any height adjustments.

There may be other options. Have you looked into other pin boxes? Some will extend further that the standard one, and Reese makes a “sidewinder” that moves the pivot point. I don’t know the weight rating of the sidewinder but it may be a viable option

I am looking at the Pullrite 2914. (my truck has the OEM setup in it already) I was also looking at the Curt Q24 manual slider.

I would think twice about a manual slider. I can’t say I’ve had a customer that “loves” thier manual slider other than the price.

There are 1000s of short bed trucks pulling newer fifvers with scallop front cap. I pulled with short bed watch what your doing and don’t jackknife the camper.

Agreed it is possible but what about those situations where you need to get in or out of a tight space. I am not willing to risk that.

Honestly I do not know as it was ordered with my hitch. With me being new to 5th wheels I assumed they would come with the hitch but after doing a little research it looks as it depends on who makes your king pin box. I’ll take a look tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.

When you consider that there are probably 10 times the travel trailers being towed as fifth wheels, AND that NO travel trailer connected to a bumper hitch can reach the same angles backing into a site as a short bed truck with a "curved front trailer", your statement becomes significantly less "impactful"...

Any short bed truck with a conventional fifth wheel hitch (non slider) can achieve angles greater than a bumper hitch trailer in the same situation....

So, the "risk" you face is less than probably 10 times the "bumper pull folks" endure every time they tow their trailer....

A sliding hitch is "nice to have" for some people and probably a "must have" for a few, but it's not a "got to have or else" for anyone who pays attention to where they are and what they're doing....

I've towed fifth wheels over 100,000 miles in the past 10 years and NEVER been in a situation where I needed a sliding hitch. Why? Because I know my rig's limitations and "just don't get there".

It's better to stop, get out and look rather than "crank her back, make that turn, push the axle hangers to their limit and make that turn in one "fell swoop"....

Anyone who has "grown up towing travel trailers with equalizer hitches", moving to a short bed truck with a conventional fifth wheel hitch will realize that they can "cut much sharper angles" than they ever could with a travel trailer... So, the question becomes, "With the significantly increased angles a fifth wheel can turn over a travel trailer, is pushing even greater angles necessary?" If you can put a travel trailer in the spot, you can put a fifth wheel/short bed truck in the same spot with a conventional fifth wheel hitch...

So, is a sliding hitch "necessary"??? IMHO, nope, not for someone who knows their rig and pays attention to what they're doing..... YMMV

After looking at it this morning I have the model # 331760. It has a single set screw on the front and no side to side adjustment.

I pretty much agree with everything JRTJH says in his post. I have been doing this for several years myself, but I do not consider myself an Expert by any means.

I think I am going to go with the 2914. (Mainly out of curiosity to see how it functions) but my pin box measurements are not lining up with the choices from the Pullrite "capture plate" page.

I have a combination of 2 the 331756 & the 331760 that you have. my measurement A = the "756" "B" = 760 and my "C" is at 10 5\8"

My measurements
A = 13 3/8" (331756)
B = 5" (331760)
C = 10 5/8"

So i'm pondering which one to pick. I'm not overly worried about the "C" dimension as it is longer than my measurement. I can easily shorten that if for some reason i needed too.

Send pullrite a email and they will help and make sure you get the correct capture plate.
