Question Yet Another Battery Box Thread

I want to add a battery to my Cougar 5er. I would like to match the black vented box that is already there. By vented, I mean the one with the snorkle attached.

I can't find any markings on the box. I searched the web. I searched this forum. I contacted Keystone Customer support (ZERO Help).

Does anyone know who makes the Cougar battery box.

Keystone was VERY helpful for me - I emailed them and asked for a part number ... handed the part number to the local dealer and they ordered them for me. Exact match and cheaper than anything local I found ...

My thread's on here somewhere - lemme see if I can find it.

Thanks gkainz, I saw your thread. I tried to do like you and contact customer support. I asked if they could sell me one, or give me the OEM part number. I got:

"Thank you for contacting Keystone RV. I am contacting you in response to your recent part(s) inquiry. I am sorry, Keystone does not sell retail parts. Therefore we do not have part numbers. Please contact your nearest Keystone Authorized dealer for parts inquiries."

Useless.

Do you still have the part number? I did not see it in your thread.

Thanks,

I went to my dealer's parts counter and told them I needed another battery box for a series 24 battery just like the one that came with the trailer that has the big drain and the vent pipe. No part number needed. The nice lady looked it up, checked her inventory (not in stock) and ordered it for me.

Sometimes, the simplest route is the best, folks. I know I advise a lot of times that stuff can be found easier and cheaper elsewhere, but if it is an RV specific item and you don't know the specifics of it, your RV parts counter or service department is a good first place to start. Contrary to popular opinion, they actually do know their stuff most of the time.

In this case, the identical battery box is used by most RV manufacturers. Let's not be blaming Keystone for things that can be totally handled by your dealer. Aftermarket parts and standard RV replacement parts are well handled by RV parts counters or online suppliers.

And, I might point out that there are several online catalogs of RV parts where you can find just about anything you might need.

I did a rapid google search on vented battery box and selected Images. Dozens of pics of exactly the same item popped up on my screen. Select Shopping and you get dozens of sales offers. Funny thing is that most of them are white instead of black. I really didn't care about color when mine came in white, but the black ones are to be found if you really need it.

As I said, did web search, did not find a match. White ones are different.

Dealer is not near by.

Thanks,
It's in there - just not very obvious ...

Finally, I emailed Keystone directly, who responded with "Have your dealer order Part #179817 directly from us."
