Lets talk blinds

I have a 2017 Hideout bunkhouse. Trailer has been good to me, but I absolutely hate the traditional blinds with the metal slats. They are so loud, easy to bend, and overall just horrible in a travel trailer. I am looking for a cheap replacement so I don't have to hear those things rocking and rattling all the time. What have you guys done to to put something else in that isnt so annoying?

Blinds and shades are very easy to replace.

Not cheap, but dumped our faux wood slat blinds for these Irvine day/night slow rise roller shades.

We love them.

well i think I have my game plan. Lowes had rolling shades at 60% off so at $17 bucks a piece instead of $44. The only downside is they are not blackouts, they are just shades. So I got black-out material and will apply it to the back of the shade. These should be all in for about $22 each and just a little bit of my time.

I did pick up a black-out roller shade from lowes as well, but it looked so cheap almost like a shower curtain plastic feeling. So that is going back.

I also plan on applying magnets to keep the lower portion in place rather than the silly plastic clips that i hate so much.

Our blinds in the MHC are like the day/night shades Chuck linked. We've had great luck with them and DW really likes them. If we decide to nap in the middle of the day you can pull them down in the bedroom and it will black out the room. No rattle or flopping either.

Stealing this whole idea 😂 Thank you! I dislike blinds anyway but those aluminum jobs are the worst. Thinking thicker material shades will be more opaque. A few more $ to be sure but will be the last time I do it. Magnets are great idea, not a fan of those plastic nubs at bottom.

Whoever invented Mini Blinds should be put down. And whoever thinks its a great idea in a trailer really sucks. lol They make noise every step we take in our trailer, and once my kid or dog touches them they are bent. Those clips get brittle and break. Just all around the single most annoying thing in my trailers. lol

LOL, all personal opinion!
We have mini blinds on every window except the bedroom. We like them because you can block the sun, and still see out! We have JT Strongarms on our 32' 5er and it is rock solid, so we don't rock and the blinds don't make noise.
when we travel DW uses Velcro straps to secure them up so they don't rattle around.

Sorry in your opinion I suck!

My ‘97 Jayco Eagle had mini blinds. All were still in great shape when I sold the trailer in 2012.

it really is a personal opinion. I am just very opinionated on it.
I really hate when you sleep on the dinette or couch (in friends' trailers) and you roll over or whip a blanket ontop of you and the blinds make all kinds of noise. Also seems like most of the clips on the wall to hold the blinds in both my trailers are failing, so the blinds always just kinda move around. I just need to do maintenance on them but figured I would do something that will never make noise again. Pretty excited i got a few installed, and i already like the rollers better.

How hard were these to install?

Not bad at all...pretty straight forward. We removed the old and installed 7 new blinds in an afternoon Had to remove the valances and old blinds, install the new blinds and then put the valances back. Proper mounting brackets are included. Just need to provide your own screws. Definitely a two person job.

If ordering, make sure you follow the measuring instructions to a tee as the blinds are all custom made at the factory.

RV Blind Co is the regional distributor for Irvine, the manufacturer. Their everyday pricing was about 15% cheaper than the 'deep discount' price I received from another seller hawking them at Quartzite. Jacque, the owner is very responsive to any questions you may have ([email protected])

Here is a link to their YT channel. There are 'how to' videos there for measuring as well as installing.

My last 5er came with the Irvine day/night shades & if you go with those I'd recommend criss crossing 2 zip ties on each of the support brackets. The clips in the brackets are plastic & will break after bouncing on our great highways. I had several brackets break, Irvine was very good at replacements free of charge but I got tired of removing valances to replace them so I did the zip ties once & done.

I'm pretty sure that we're going to trash all of our blinds and go with curtains..

Unless I'm misunderstanding, the mounting brackets for ours were metal.

Yes the brackets are metal, but mine had a slide clip that held the blind to the bracket which was plastic, that's the part that broke letting the blinds fall, especially the long heavy ones.
