So I’m thinking just leave late August and head Northeast. Assuming a destination of say Maine, how late is too late regarding cold temps?

some (most) of the places i looked at closed on oct 15 or around there...i’d say from mid august till oct 15 is a good time to travel up there.

I would say, in comparison to New Mexico, about July 30 or so. Yes, I have become a girly-man where cold is involved!

Yeah, the majority of campgrounds in the northeast close around Columbus day weekend. There are a few that stay open, but they shut off their water by the end of November.

Thanks. I think on the dates I intend to be back S to avoid colder temps. Like Jim I've decided I'm averse to cold weather and I don't want to pack all my long johns, heavy coats etc.

meant to say i stopped at Brimfield winery in Brimfield Massachusetts for one night on the way up to Maine …it was a harvest host …first time i used HH and i tell you it was great…i used my generator all night…

they had a live band and a food truck up at the main building when i got there but it was very quiet overnight..few other campers spread out and HH only asks that you patronize the business that is hosting you ….spend at least $20 …will definitely use them and others in the future..beats a walmart or rest stop

Brimfield winery has car shows and flea markets and bands regularly..was gonna stay on the way back but they had a blues festival…said we could still come but the ticket was $40-$50 bucks and we didn’t want to get trapped in there…The town of Brimfield also has an antique festival

Maine is hard to say in regards to temps. It's been mostly in the 80's during the day and 60's at night during August. However, we stayed in our camper Saturday night (8/27) and at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning it was 44. Looking at the next 10 day's it will be in the 50's almost every night. Of course we also had a couple days of 90's and 70 at night. Be prepared for anything up here. Coast is usually cooler than inland during the day.

I would prefer to travel in the shoulder seasons when kids are in school and crowds are down but it will be hard to do being limited by returning to FL in October. Plus, and others will know this I'm sure, I was told by a guy from this part of the country (not NE) that he was told (I know) when he went to ME in June a couple years back that he was there at about the best time for lobster....I don't have any idea. Getting my folder together and got a Garmin RV GPS sitting waiting for me to hit the order button.

Of course you would know that DS called this morning and advised he has prostate cancer and they can't/won't operate on him due to severe heart damage so we'll have to see how that plays out. I'm still going to make my plans though.
Honestly lobster is good up here anytime of the year. They do catch the most from around June to December but they still catch them year round.

There, my first post and it's a double quote.

I may just pretend I’m living in Minnesota in the winter…hibernate in the house in the summer and travel in the fall, winter, and spring.
Maybe do some Christmas festivals (Natchitoches), eat oysters in Abbeville and tamales in San Antonio.

We are headed up the same route later this month. I wanted to stay there on a Wednesday but their HH info said weekends only. There aren’t many HH along i90.

I live outside Rochester NY and we travel a lot.
I have suggestions but we can discuss this in the spring.
One major issue that should be looked at early is getting from Maine to Florida.
You do not want to take I-95.
I-95 is tough in a car, with an RV in tow..... Eeeek!
You want to avoid NYC, Baltimore and Washington.

I-90 West to I-79 to I-77 looks longer but is way easier on the brain and nerves.

Agree about I-95 and you won't be able to use the I-95 tunnels in Baltimore with 40-pound propane bottles. I-77 and even I-81 are beautiful alternate routes.
