I have had a concern on the underground storage tanks. That they may be old and contain water and dirt. Should I avoid older service stations or maybe its not a thing.

Only thing you didn't mention is the splash blending done when the driver swipes his card at the loading rack which usually add the additive package (Techron for example) into the truck and the "generic" gas is loaded on top and mixed during the ride to the stations. We were an indy company and shipped fuel to tank storage/loading facilities for sale.

I blended in SoCal and the only company we did "special blends" for was Exxon, who had certain specs for their base fuel prior to additives.

^This is correct. The additive package for the particular brand is added at the loading rack.

Same goes for "offroad" diesel, it's the exact same as the regular diesel other than a red dye is added at the loading rack. It's only an indicator that road tax has not been paid, thus "offroad" use.
I mistakenly filled up with offroad diesel, went in to tell the girl behind the counter while this old guy with his hands in his coveralls is telling me "you're gonna burn that SOB up, that fuels too hot for yer truck son!", to which I said "I don't think that red dye has much effect on the engine but it'll stain the hell out of your work boots!".

Just read where gas is predicted to reach 10.00/gallon and diesel 12.00/gallon by Labor Day. I have a gut feeling there will be many diesel pickups for sale by September. I really feel sorry for the retirees who heat with oil. I was at the gas station Wednesday and spoke to an elderly lady who was fueling at the same island. Gas was 4.79/gallon and I joked with her to "fill up while it's still cheap." She told me she heats with oil and has to sell her home. That was a sobering conversation to say the least. I wished her well and said prices may change by winter.

Sounds like you're watching the same Chicken Little news station as my SIL that says grocery store shelves will be empty by August......the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!
If gas reaches $10 & diesel $12 there'll be lots of vehicles of all shapes, sizes & fuel requirements parked, no need to sell them, as no one will be able to afford to drive them.
If the gas/diesel are that expensive so will natural gas, butane, & propane so how do those pushing EVs expect to have electricity to charge them.........Oh yea! Solar & windmills......... yea right!
If they think that'll force me into an electric vehicle they are mistaken!!!!

I don't know about the Chicken Little reference, and I never mentioned empty food shelves, but whatever.
I bought 42 gallons of gas back in February for $3.49/gal here in PA in anticipation of the price rising. AAA reported that gas could reach $6.00/gal by Memorial Day. Of course they were wrong, as it only reached $4.99. But I don't find it a stretch to believe gas could be $6.00 by the Fourth and possibly climb from there.
I guess you really don't have much skin in the game as it appears you're without a truck or RV.

Free gas tonight at our house. We had beef and bean burrito bowls with mango/purple onion salsa..... Well, maybe it's not entirely free. The indigestion will cause us to pay a dear price in about an hour or so ...

Regular jumped about $.40 yesterday and another .03 today. Currently it's $4.999 at most stations and the lowest I saw today was 4.969. Diesel, add .50

I stole this from a motorhome group that I follow... Sort of applies to our form of RVing as well:

Why diesel trucks with a 20% price difference, fuel economy will make it a wash to gas.
Currently here near Portland reg gas is $5.23 and diesel is $5.79 about 11% difference, fuel economy makes more costly to drive gas.

Today in PA, gas is $4.99 and diesel is $6.38. According to Motor Trend ( https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2...l-economy-def/ ) they tested a 2020 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins and got 20.1 mpg average. I can average 19 mpg with my 2019 F150 3.5 Ecoboost with 10 spd auto. There's also DEF and more expensive oil changes along with fuel filter replacement. While I'm not sure how much more oil and filters cost, it would probably add very little to the cost of operation?

An "undiscussed gas price" that I experienced yesterday is the price of propane.

In October, the local Tractor Supply was selling propane for $1.79 per gallon. Yesterday, it was $3.99 per gallon.

That equates to a 20 pound (5 gallon) tank cost going from $8.95 to 19.95 and a 30 pound (7.5 gallon) tank going from $13.43 to 29.93.

So, it's not just unleaded regular and diesel that have increased in price.....

Diesel went up $.50 a gallon in the past 3 days around these parts. Imagine the big rig owner/operators are going to have to really shoot up their costs because even while they are out on the road, price of diesel is going up so fast not sure how they can keep up. Heard on the farm report that fertilizer is also an endangered species so I expect given these things, it will be tough by the end of the summer.

Here in the Northeast, most homeowners heat with #2 fuel oil and anyone with an outside tank has to use #1 (K-1 Kerosene). I have a price lock through August at $2.799/gallon for #2, and that will soften the blow for part of the fall and into winter, but many folks are going to be tight this heating season and unfortunately many will have to make tough choices.

i’d read the disclaimer on price locks..i wonder if a company would honor that if it meant selling at a loss and potentially putting them out of buisness.

id maybe buy some extra tanks and fill up now but they likely know your usage and wouldn’t let you stockpile it

Fellow campers it’s only going to get worse. Today in our area at 8am gas was 4.39 most places. Now at 5 pm gas is 4.69 most places. Diesel is unbelievable I have never in my travels seen diesel at 5.75. No break in sight we are doomed for sure. The poor truckers how will the independent trucker survive god help them.
