New Fifth Wheel
Just picked up a new 2020 Montana 3780RL 41 ft fifth wheel in Pismo Beach, CA last week and towed it with our F350 dually to Palm Desert, CA where we are enjoying warm, sunny days for a couple of weeks then back to Pismo Beach and finally Benicia, CA (NE of San Francisco).
My wife picked out the rig (our third in 15 years). The Splendide washer / dryer is convenient and very quite. Factory installed a 265 watt solar panel and 2000 watt inverter. We installed a second battery for dry camping and Winegard Direct tv antenna and Gateway wifi router. We also installed a Furion wireless camera system, however, the verdict is out whether it will be effective since I was unable to use it while backing into rv spots on my first two parking events.

I’m going to pile on just a little. We were camped in the Southern California desert last weekend. Mid 50s during the day and mid thirties at night.

I would take that over the -13°C and foot and a half snow here, not to mention the salt.

Dan. According to the people that know we need salt in our diets no matter how we get it. 75F and sunny in Bullhead City today.

Although many people think of the desert as a hot, dry, barren area I find them very interesting, especially in the evenings. Great photos of your family enjoying the outing!

Welcome welcome. Our last trip this past summer to Pismo Beach was for 5 very relaxing days. Love that place.
We are close to you in Antioch, CA.

My wife is so excited about camping she booked 2 weeks in Palm Desert, CA to enjoy the new rig and hang out with snow birds. She even signed us up with Harvest Hosts. Next month we start monthly rv trips with our Benicia California Camp & Club rv club and now retired we go early and say late.

A bit further out in the desert on I-10 is Desert Center and Tamarack Lake, a campground on a golf course. We've found it interesting an affordable.

Thanks for the recommendation.....we are going to drive there tomorrow as the rent is $600/month on concrete with pool, jacuzzi, 2 golf courses and 2 fish-stocked man-made lakes vs. $2000/month in Palm Desert with a heated pool, jacuzzi, gym, activities, dinners, etc.

Yes, very affordable and a nice clean place. Mostly snowbirds but I am sure interesting folks. But do be aware the nearest store of any kind is 20 miles away and 50 miles to a market (in Palm Desert.) We have only overnighted there but was impressed.

Did you have it installed when you backed up those times. Some systems require the lights to be on, on the camper, to use the camera, or reverse to be activated. My camera requires the lights to be in the on position. The automatic headlight position will not work unless it is dark out. Mine was the Furrion FOS48TA-BL.

Lights turned on. Mine is a Furrion Visions FOS7TASF. One of the side cameras is fuzzy. I plan to stop by the dealer next Monday to discuss its clarity. I guess I need to get comfortable using it while driving and backing up before I make a final judgement on its effectiveness.

Great to have your camera set to be able to have it on all the time. I rarely use for backing but love having a rear view look while driving. Especially handy for pulling back into right lane after passing.
