You have to look, hunt and search. Let your nose be your guide - it could be anywhere, behind anything. I once had a dead wood rat at our mountain home that had migrated in somehow. Me and little brother had to look, dig, get in the attic etc. Found him at the bottom of a wall where he had fallen and had to cut a hole (covered with a double outlet plate) so we could reach in and pull him out.
