We had 2 VW Westfalia Campmobiles. The first was a 1971 without the popup top. Total cost was $3400 including tax, title and transportation. We bought it in Germany for delivery at the port in New Jersey. We travelled from NJ to Michigan, down to Louisiana, over to Florida, then to Edwards AFB in California with a 6 week old baby. Traded that one for a 1972 model with the tent top.

Like you, now I wonder how the heck we ever managed such a long trip with a newborn, but "you do what you have to do" and we definitely didn't want to remain in Turkey for another year, so the choice was clear to travel back to the US with a 6 week old baby.

Looking back, that trip was filled with happiness, enjoyment and a sense of adventure. We had a blast !!!!!
