If it were me, I would remove the control panel and check to see if there is 12v power to the switch and also past the switch when engaged (using a meter). You could rule out a lot this way.
If it is a bad switch, you could temporarily move the rear slide wires to the other slide switch to operate the idea (to get your slide to open/close until you get the switch replaced).
