Well as an owner of a mid sized 5er with a smaller basement, a cord reel isn't a option. We chose a lighter option. I built our 50 amp 240 volt power cable out of 6/4 SOOW cable. This is used in construction and for portable connections. This has rubber insulation and is lighter and far more flexible than the standard PVC insulation on normal cables, even below freezing.
Our power cable is 40' and easily fits in a 3 gallon bucket.
