If you are running on your fresh water tank you can leave the pump on as long as you have plenty of water in the tank. It will cycle on and off as needed. If you are on city water you don't need the pump on at all. The hot water heater switches can both be on or just one depending on how much of fast recovery you use. I use electric only when in camping with full hook ups. Don't turn them on until you have water without air bubbles out of your HW lines. Run each of your faucets one at a time to get the air out of the line. Have fun.
