Jim when I was a kid in the late 1950's early 1960's my dad would fill up at the Red Head gas station. He new the owner and when he would pull up (back when they pumped the gas) he would ask the owner "what flavor is it this week?" Red Head would buy whatever was the cheapest at that time. If the guy said "Sinclar" then when would pass a Sinclar station my day would boast about getting the same gas for 2 cents less. It's been a common practice for a long time.
