There isn't any overflow protection on RV holding tanks, other than the fresh water tank. It sounds like either you have a crack in the tank or the drain going into the tank isn't sealed.

Some drains are glued into the tank and others are pushed into a rubber seal. If yours is the later, then it's possible that overfilling the tank caused enough pressure for the seal to leak.
